Facebook earns using us ?

Hello and thank you for reading this. I want to ask a question that bothers me for months. I know that Facebook owner is Mark Z. I also know what he earns most of his money from ads that appear on the right side of page. But I also heard that he earns from us, when we use facebook, he gets paid. Now, I don't really get that. Your replies are welcomed.

yes, they earn a lot from us... ... like here in mylot... same principles. however, we are using them too in a way to connect to people and to upload and store photos.
