I work as a cashier at a retail store. I am only a part time employee. Saturday we got news that a full time sales associate job had an opening. I love being a cashier but I would love being full time as I am the only real income earner in the house. I applied for the position, and the personnel manager said I would do go in the position, so I am hoping maybe I'll get lucky and get this full time job! I will have to have an interview and should here shortly after that. I am so anxious to hear about an interview. Anything exciting in everyone else's jobs right now?

Here is to hoping right along with you that you get this full time job. Enthusiastic people like you are needed in sales and i bet you would do a wonderful job!!
I must say you are one of the few who I have ever heard say they liked being a cashier..I had to work a cash register on one job years ago and I disliked it tremendously. The pressure from some of the rude public gave me a huge appreciation for all who are cashiers.
In facI after that I have gone out of my way to be extra patient with all cashiers...and I believe everyone should have the experience of cahiering just to know what it is like to have a long line and some obnoxious customers....

Thank you for the confidence!
I have a pretty thick skin and don't let grumpy people get me down for the most part! I find though if your happy and friendly most people are friendly back. Other cashiers at my job often complain about rude customers everyday, but I find it comes from the attitude they portray! I don't get a lot of rude people like some cashiers. I love interaction with other people so that is why I like my job, and you can learn some interesting things!

No doubt your attitude makes all the difference in how others treat you. You are wise to have the self discipline to not let grumps get to you.
I often like to use nasty people to practice patience and try to kill them with kindness..but I still would not want to be a cashier. I remember one of my worst experiences was when I just started working the register and I had a really really long line ..the stress was not fun....it wasn't the people, but the situation that was stressing me...

Long lines don't stress me out either! I can only go as fast as I can go and there is no reason to upset myself with things I cannot do! I actually like to have people in line because I love to be busy. Our supervisor actually always puts me on the busiest cash because I like being there and can handle the lines there!

This is good news. Especially with jobs being so hard to get everywhere anymore it seems. I wish I drove, as then I could do more where I work, but since I do not, my hands are tied and my job is the same thing everyday with nothing new. But for now, I remain here because of the Medical benefits, and eventually am hoping for something better somewhere else, preferably a little closer to home.

Hi shiesse,
I have performed both types of jobs. I have done retail sales, but it does have its problems and the one I had was a commission sales job. You did not get an hourly pay like you do as a cashier, so if you don't make any sales and spend 8 hours working, you don't make any money. It didn't take me to long to realize I was better off as a cashier. As I grew older, I learned there were other types of sales jobs that paid you a salary plus a commission. That was the one I liked the best. Sales jobs are not as easy as many would have you believe. I hope the one you are wanting pays you a base wage plus a commission or an hourly wage. Good luck and I hope you get a better job.

Although it is a sales associate job in my store, it is not a selling job per say. I know that comes off kind of confusing but I would be informing customers and helping them pick what is best for them, insuring prices are correct, stocking. It is and hourly position. Thank you for the good luck!

Good Luck to you!
I'm am hoping to be lucky enough to get such a position in fall when my son goes to school. However, I'd be happy with 3/4 time as they don't really offer too many full time positions at my work.
