State Aid Fraud

I found out that my boyfriend's ex is committing state aid fraud so I submitted a fraud report on her. She has two jobs (one full-time and one part-time), she gets child support from my boyfriend ($97 a week) and her boyfriend lives with her and he has a full-time job. They live in a house that her mom owns so they don't have to pay rent. She has two kids (the girl she has with my boyfriend and then also her son that she has with her boyfriend). She has been saying on Facebook that she's not reporting all of her income yet she's able to get state aid that pays for a private daycare. Now this doesn't make any sense to me, because she told me that she took her daughter out of daycare because she's in preschool now and her mom watches her son. So I'm thinking she's saying her mom is the "private daycare" and her mom is getting the state aid check. Also, she gets quite a bit of food stamps which is just mind blowing to me when she has four incomes. Then she posts something on Facebook saying "just because you get help doesn't mean you got it so good. so check yourself because we're doing just fine without your help". And she says she was talking about me. I have no idea what that has to do with me because I certainly wasn't helping her with anything.

Its because of people like that hard working people that really do need the help cant get it. I would have done the same thing.

Exactly. My mom found out that my cousin was doing something similar, so my mom reported her. My cousin was getting over $1,000 in food stamps because she was lying about who lived with her. She was even claiming the neighbors' kids at one point! So after my mom reported her, she lost over half of her food stamps. She was so mad, but that's what she gets for taking advantage of the system!

she should have lost all of her food stamps and had to pay restitution. Where I live, that is what happens and then you can't get any help for a certain amount of years.

I agree with you, Sid! I don't know if anything came of my report because of course she's not going to say when anything bad happens in her life. She only wants to lie and talk about how amazing her life is. When I submitted the report online, it did say that if they needed any further information they would contact me and I haven't heard anything. I get the feeling that maybe something did happen though because recently she has been trying to sell some items on Facebook.

I would report fraud, too. In my city there's so much going on - and what makes it even more unfortunate is that our state is one of the few that slid through the recession relatively unscathed. Not too many people lost jobs and there was lots of help and assistance for those who did. Being a blue state, of course - we were lucky. Yet, with all that extra money we had, many people took advantage of it - and still do. My next door neighbor, for one. The only reason I didn't report her is she's got cancer and an 11 year old son and 10 year old granddaughter she's still raising. She's been in the hospital this past week again. Her "husband" lives with her, too - and she's got two adult sons. They are always mooching off her. For some, the food stamps and disability checks really don't cover all their needs. She does what she can to make some cash on the side. They don't have a car, or an luxury items. So I don't begrudge her the little extra she makes on the side. On the other hand, I see some people dressed very sharply, including their kids, using their "independence" cards in the grocery store time and again. It reminds me of Lindsay Lohan - they are "broke" but somehow always dressed to the nines, with the most up to date smart phones and tablets. I have a cell phone that is just plain average. Qwerty keyboard - internet access - but not smart. That's all I can afford from the money I EARN.

That is so true. If you sell them for clubbing and extravagant items you don't need food stamps. 10 is not legally old enough to babysit - someone needs to call protective services on those kids if she's leaving a 10 year old in charge. The best bet is to call police when she's out and the kids are home alone. Lose the kids equals losing food stamps. When I used to work for child protective services - would you believe often a parent's main concern when I had to remove a child or children was not - will my child be okay, where will he or she be - etc. etc. - it was - "Will I lose my food stamps and/or monthly assistance check?" some priorities, eh?

CPS (known as DCFS here) has been called on her many times! Her third child (she now has four children) used to go outside by herself and she's done this since she was two years old. I believe she's four now. But the neighbors would see the girl outside by herself in the middle of the night, walking down the street and they would call the police. An officer would come, take the girl back home and of course the mother was never there, the oldest child was watching them. Nothing has ever happened from the police or DCFS stopping by their home.

My cousin (who I mentioned in a previous comment) was selling her food stamps to friends and other family members so she could go buy things for herself. So she obviously didn't NEED the food stamps if she wasn't even using them. She's able to go out to the clubs and bars just about every weekend and she leaves her three kids with whoever will watch them. Her oldest kid is probably 10 now so she usually leaves her at home alone and she gets into a lot of trouble. I don't see how so many people are able to get assistance yet still have all the nice things they have. When I applied to food stamps, I had to submit any income statements that I had within the last year, even for my household members who wouldn't be on my food stamps. But I suppose it's fairly easy for people to lie about things like that.

If she is doing what you are claiming then she will have some explaining to do. It does make me mad to see people exploiting programs that are designed to give a helping hand to those in need. There are many, many people who truly need the help yet can't get it because the resources are being drained by those who don't really need it. She obviously isn't in need of anything but a good b*tt kicking.
