Has anyone tried these 'at home' jobs involving crafts?

Hello mylotters, I came across some discussions regarding this in the mylot discussion search engine, but many of these discussions were older. I was wondering if anyone had recently tried any companies where you assemble the crafts at home. Only companies with buy back programs, please, as I do not have access to flea markets or wish to sell online. In the other discussions, I do not believe that these 'make it at home' craft companies were 'buy back option' specific, and those are the only companies that I am interested in. Thanks much in advance.:)

If it's what I'm thinking, it's most likely one of those work at home scams - don't fall for it! I looked into this years ago - and it's unbelievable how it's still an ongoing scam. They all make you buy these "kits" and you have to make their product exactly as requested. But they will find some way to reject what you make - and you will never ever see any money for it. Look up "work at home scams" - there are articles everywhere about it.

That's exactly why I didn't even attempt the venture . . . I didn't have the money to buy these kits - and thank goodness. These so-called companies prey on folks who are that desperate to think they are investing in something to make more money - when in fact they will be losing it all (not to mention the time that will be lost in making these craft items . . . ugh, can you imagine the disappointment?).

Not a bad idea, there are some consignment shops around certain neighborhoods. I think it's a good idea to check into this. Yes. I like that idea. That is what is excellent regarding mylot, there are many different people with their life experiences that can add much to our knowledge. Thanks much!

You can try New England Crafters and Magical Gift Company, I've heard good things and bad things about them. You can also check out the wahm forum like another mylotter mentioned, lots of helpful reviews about crafting from home.
In my experience, I did try one company who's name I don't remember anymore but it was a terribly difficult thing to do. I was supposed to make a christmas ornament from beads and glue, I couldn't even finish one in a weeks time! I also don't like that most companies charge for supplies, will not accept all of your items and pay is very little for the enormous amount of time you spend working on the projects.

Honestly, I have to say that this is something that I would steer clear of. You see, my mother tried to do this a few years ago and the issue that she had with them is that they were so very picky about what they would and would not accept. Most of the time the pieces were rejected because of something really silly like a button being a portion of a cm away from where they wanted them to be. So she used the fact that she had learned to make several new crafts and would sell them at craft shows.
My best suggestion to you would be to make the crafts that you really enjoy making and open an etsy store front. You will make more money for your time by doing it that way instead of trying to work with a buy back company.

Thank you everyone for your input, it's extremely helpful. I believe you all have points. From what I am gathering from your collective experience, it is as if these companies are making more money from people purchasing kits, than anything else. You pay 50.00 for the kit, and you are stuck if they do not care for your work. Like I said, I am not familiar with this at all, it was just an accidental surfing incident and I thought that it might be worth while to make an income with crafts as you relax and watch tv or a movie. I hope others post their experiences as well, you never know what people will find. I do, however, encourage people to visit this website http://www.wahm.com, there is a lot of good and legitimate home work information on that website, in case you are looking for that sort of thing.
