I have something to share with you. This is for parents and children who hate going through the frustration of flash cards. I call it: The Times Table Song. I came up with this when my Grandson, who, in grade eight, informed me that he wasn't doing well in math at school. "Why?" I asked him. He said he had never got the times tables set in his head. So I set out to remedy this. I'm sure we all remember singing the song Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. And I'll bet it is still just as fresh in your heads as the day you learned it. It is also the same tune used for the ABC alphabet song. How many pre-school children know their alphabet before entering school? Just about all of them. Well, the same can be done with the times tables. I have substituted numbers for words, and kept the melody the same. Math for small children. By the time they go to school, they willknow their times tables, and by the time they need them, it will be like a refresher course. Easy-peasy!! No frustation for child or parent!! So here we go... To the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star...Verse 1: 1X1 is 1 let's go, 1X2 is 2 you know, 1X3 is 3 you see, 1X4 is 4 no more, 1X5 is 5 and then, 1X6 is 6 my friend. Verse 2: 1X7 is 7 and then, 1X8 is 8 my friend, 1X9 is 9 and so, 1X10 is 10 and then, 1X11 is 11 and so, 1X12 is 12 the end. Verse 3: 2X1 is 2 and then, 2X2 is 4 and then, 2X3 is 6 and then, 2X4 is 8, and then, 2X5 is 10 and then, 2X6 is 12 my friend. Verse 4: 2X7 is 14 then, 2X8 is 16 and, 2X9 is 18 then, 2X10 is 20 and, 2X11 is 22, 2x12 is 24. Verse 5: 3X1 is 3 we know, 3X2 is 6 and so, 3X3 is 9 and then, 3X4 is 12 my friend, 3X5 is 15 and, 3X6 is 18 then... Verse 6: 3X7 is 21, 3X8 is 24, 3X9 is 27, 3X10 is 30 then, 3X11 is 33 and, 3X12 is 36. Verse 7: 4X1 we know is 4, 4X2 is 8, there's more, 4X3 is 12 and then, 4X4 is 16 then, 4X5 is 20 and, 4X6 is 24. Verse 8: 4X7 is 28, 4X8 is 32, 4X9 is 36, 4X10 is 40 then, 4X11 is 44 and, 4X12 is 48. Verse 9: 5X1 is always 5, 5X2 is 10 and then, 5X3 is 15 then, 5X4 is 20 and, 5X5 is 25, 5X6 is 30, oh my! Verse 14: 7X7 is 49, 7X8 is 56, 7X9 is 63, 7X10 is 70, 7X11 is 77, 7X12 is 84. Verse 15: 8X1 is 8 and then, 8X2 is 16 and, 8X3 is 24, 8X4 is 32, 8X5 is 40 wait! 8X6 is 48. Verse 18: 10X any number - here's a trick, just add a zero, it's oh so quick! Verse 19: 11X1 is 11 and so, 11X2 is 22, 11X3 is 33, 11X4 is 44, 11X5 is 55, 11X6 is 66. Verse 20: 11X7 is 77, 11X8 is 88, 11X9 is 99, 11X10 is 110, 11X11 is 121, 11X12 is 132. Verse 21: 12X1 is 12 there's more, 12X2 is 24, 12X3 is 36, 12X4 is 48, 12X5 is 60 and, 12X6 is 72. Verse 22: 12X7 is 84, 12X8 is 96, 12X9 is 108, 12X10 is 120, 12X11 is 132, 12X12 is 144. Verse 23: There we go we've learned them all, aren't you glad there are no more!! Hint: Sing each verse until the child can sing it without thinking about it. When each verse is mastered, proceed to the next verse and sing it 'till it comes like second nature. Enjoy these times tables. Remember...even big kids who didn't get them the first time around, can easily get them now. Good luck and happy singing.

That is very helpful song to the kids, particularly these days, they are just so hard to teach. A teacher or the mommy should have wise intervention in order to make things easy for them to catch up and relate.

I think singing is always a great way to learn and memorize..I still remember some like i before e except after c... and 30 days hath sept, april, june and november, all the rest have 31 except Feb......
and certainly singing is much more interesting than reciting...even when the words do not rhyme...keep up the good work
