Was driving back to my apartment when right in front of me , in an instant i witnessed a traffic accident, guy on a motorbike crashed into the divider after he slammed on emergency brakes on a red light , think his bike lost road grip and he tried to avoid crashing into a vehicle, anyway, he was thrown off and writhing in agony on the kerb, and on impulse, without a second thought, i just responded, parked and see i could be of any help since i am trained to give first aid, bike was in the middle of the busy road and the guy was bleeding profusely from his leg although conscious was screaming in agony from a broken leg.And in seconds, i was helped by few more passerbys ( also samaritans helping on impulse), carried bike to the roadside and since i seemed to know what to do , they assisted me in first aid, i managed to stop the bleeding and fashioned a splint from some tree branches, and waited for the ambulance..
Later after the incident , upon reflecting , i realised i felt good about myself, was in a position to help and i just reacted without second thought., because i was just there and witnessed it and was in a position to be a first responder.
I was glad that i made the decision to stop and help. I am sure many of us may do the same if an incident like this happens right in front of their eyes but at the same time, there are those among us who will rather not get involved upon witnessing an accident like this and their impulse will be to just drive off away from the scene...
or just stare at the victim, some incorrigible gambling opportunist jottting the registration number of the car or bike and try their luck at the lottery from other's misfortune.
Point being, it really feels good after you have helped another , doesn't have to be a major mishap, can be something as simple as giving your seat on a crowded train to those that need it or helping an elderly or sight impaired person cross the road..It is the after effect of the deed and i wish i can feel this way more often. Won't make you a saint but the feeling of gratification of helping another in need without wanting anything back is really worth it..
Natural high .Endorphins anyday!

Wow, it is a good thing for that guy you were there! And good on you for helping, so many others would have drove on not wanting to disrupt their own life. Hopefully, the guy will make a quick recovery. You say you have been trained in first aid but have you thought of maybe becoming a first responder? It sounds like you would be great at it.

Again wow! I have only taken community classes on home safety and home first aid. I thought it would be best if I knew at least something when I moved in with my mom and niece. I was so nervous something bad would happen and I wouldn't know what to do. Maybe I should think about taking the official first aid courses as well.

I can understand completely how you felt! I'm just like you and know how it feels when you help somebody who really needs it. I hope the guy is doing well now?
