Have you ever used Facebook as a data source for a project? Did it work out?

I'm thinking of using Facebook and my friends' statuses to create a new book of found poetry, which is poetry comprised of texts from other sources, like books, menus, short stories, or whatever. I was wondering if anyone had ever used Facebook as a source material for another project? If yes, was it successful? Would you do it again or choose another way to find source material?

I have not personally, but my employer organisation did it once for a marketing project. It didn't go too well, as there are obvious security issues which stops most people from taking part in the project, and there is the issue of false and unverifiable information rampant on facebook.
But, in your case, people might participate more than willingly, if you just let them know that their statuses are going to be globally viral all over the net. The lure of getting published is too much to handle for anyone. I think so that you will be successful in the venture.
