May you and your girl friend have a happy Valentines day!
Love is priceless. I remembered that I never got a gift for Valentines Day. My husband and I love each other, but we both are not romantic persons. We work at the same place, once on Valentines Day, one of my co-workers got a bouquet of flowers from her husband , all of the others admired her and they told my husband that he should buy that for me , too. My husband went to buy it on our way home and later I found him coming with a roast chicken , not flowers. I asked him what's the matter. He told me a rose on that day is 1.5$ and a roast chicken is about 1.5$, so he bought the chicken instead of the flower. I laughed. I felt my husband did right, I prefer the chicken than the flower.
Later our co-wrokers knew that , they burst into laughters , too.

Treating her out and giving her a letter is a great idea. Most women don't expect extravagant gifts. Being with your loved ones on Valentine's Day is the best gift you could ever give. I can't be with my husband because I only go home on weekends. I'm still thinking of a good gift to give. Can you suggest me something? Something that is affordable which he can use often. It's hard to think. :)

We always try our best to meet when its a special occassion. It's really hard to think a gift for him, but I think it would be great if you could just have dinner together at home. For me that would be a nice one. I could suggest on how you could think of a gift for your husband, just think of his hobbies, likes and you could definitely think of a gift for him.

I guess we'll have an advance celebration since I can't go home on Valentine's Day. Yes, it's really hard to think of a good gift. Thanks a lot. I'll try to go to the shopping mall and see what can I buy for him. :)

I will give nothing to my husband it's not a custom to do so in his country. I also won't visit him this year in februar because it's too expensive to travel over there. For my children (I Always gave them a card/small present) I bought a Valentines card plus added a small present. The small present mainly because we go live abroad (in Hungary) and the eldest will stay in the Netherlands.
The idea about Valentine's day is to show you care about someone. St Valentine gave flowers, picked out of the garden. There is no need to show up with (expensive) presents. If a partner can't appreciate a gift from the heart (letter/card, words of love, attention) they are not worth it/you.

The best you can give is your physical present and show of care.

I agree... to a point. You need to be present with her and show that you are hearing what she is saying and value what she is thinking. One way is to have something with you that she will appreciate because it indicates you know her better than some stranger.
Think. What is something she would appreciate that shows you know her better than the average... turnip. And have some fun, eh? Maybe take her to a diner?
