Do you believe there is luck and bad luck?

So, do you believe that sometimes there are people born with bad luck or are with good fortune? In chinese fengshui, your date of birth, and time signifies what fortune / kind of life awaits you. Don't you notice that sometimes there is person who is very hardworking, he is industrious but no matter how he tries or strive, luck seems to never have come his way? But then we also see someone who have worked as well but not as hard as the first example but success already was with him/her! I was told by my mom about this, he said there are people who are born lucky, that they are actually destined to be rich, to be famous and so on. there are those who are just born unlucky that they probably just have to live day by day as it is for them. So, what do you think? =) Any ideas on this? thank you!

I am not that of a believer of such thing. But one time, I went to a fortune teller, Madam Auring. Well, I am not fond of it either, but I was just forced by my SIL for fun. So, anyway, Madam Auring's reading were about 80% accurate. One thing that she has told me was, I am not lucky with business. Then I thought of the mango business that my husband and I used to have. We would earn 100K pesos a month but because of my husband being too trusting to people, we have been losing money 3x! So Madam Auring told me that I should buy these stones which will bring me good luck with any kind of business that I have. Just when she said it, I backed off. Nice try for tricking me to buy something from her!

Hi there, i sure hope youu went to her before she got in to the show business industry? i think she was not as good as she was before if compared to her findings nowadays. Ha ha... But yeah most people who would just tell you to buy these and that are not telling the truth at all. don't be fooled by them. thank you jenny for your response. its been nice seeing you in the discussions. have a great day!

I think it is true. We will wonder that sometimes life is so unfair and sometimes we feel that we are blessed because we are being flooded with tremendous blessings or fortunes....

hi there! perhaps that is the reason why we would wonder that we are working so hard, and yet it seemed our lives are not going to the place of our destination, however we see others not working as much and yet they seemed to have everything in them that is quite almost always convenient.

Yes, I believe in luck and I also believe in fate.It is hard to explain, but I believe in luck. To me everything happens for a reason and sometimes we are powerless to prevent or change it.To lose a Job,Girl/-Boyfriend or to fail to pass an exam are of cause unhappy things, but there is always a reason for.If all these things are happened at the same time, then you have to think about what's wrong with you and do it better. We have to create the situations that will allow the opportunity for real luck to occur.

hi there! thank you so much for your participation in the discussion, yes it is true we have different cultures, actually and that sets apart what our views in life is, right everything happens for a reason, that is true, everything we do can form part of what will happen to us as well... i mean we are born either lucky and unlucky however as you have said, what we can do is to try to do things to allow opportunity to come to us.

I like to believe that we make our own kind of luck. If we start to believe that luck is good or bad, we tend to blame everything that does not go our way to be bad luck. On the other hand, we don't give proper credit to things we say were good luck. We can not be ruled by luck and shouldn't have to.

hi sender, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this with us. I believe tat we do have our own decisions, however sometimes some people are born with luck and some are just born unlucky, perhaps. maybe what they need to do is to work twice as hard and yield same results as those who are lucky and only have to exert a little effort? thank you! happy mylotting..

I believe in time of luck and bad luck. I have experienced in my life "Favour of time" when everything that I attempted resulted more success than failures. On the other hand I have experienced a reverse period too. During that period of "Bad time" we can experience bitter results even in the fields of our better efficiency.

hi mohkanari, this was the argument of my mom when she was telling this to me. that even if you have all the money to invest in a business, when it is not yet your time, you might just go bankrupt... so it is just about the right timing, resources, hardwork put together... that determine what the outcome will be.

Unfortunately from my experiences, i do understand there is good and bad luck.Science can say there is nothing like that but then there is good and bad luck. Not sure, what contributes to our luck whether it is our birth chart or things in past life etc. There were things i missed not because of my skills or talents, but i was just plain unlucky. It sometimes hurts when you are unlucky.I have been unlucky so far as far as my marriage is concerned. But then i have been lucky in my professional front.I have few achievements i have been proud of.I did get some good opportunities in life. There are times in life, i have been lucky.I was lucky to be alive from an accident and there are many incidents like that.In my case, i have been lucky in some fronts, but unlucky in other fronts. But then i do not complain much about it.I do strive on things without thinking much about it.If things does not turn out ways it had-i have my answer in bad luck.It helps sometimes, although i would strive for things still. Thanks!

hi there! :D thank you for sharing this with us in the discussion. I think this is exactly what i had in mind when i created the discussion. coming from a conversation with my mother who insists that some people are just born lucky and some have to work extra to be successful and some just can't be successful because they weren't born lucky. Maybe this is due to our differences in beliefs and culture, our culture tells us that one's destiny has been set, we only are able to fulfill something though if we pursue it, otherwise we can remain as we are because we are not doing anything about it.

People being born lucky or rich is not a coincidence. They have earned that status from their previous lives' good karma. They have accumulated good karma to deserve that kind of state in life. They are lucky in the sense that they made themselves lucky from the good decisions they have made in their previous lives. We reap what we sow, that is the rule of life. As for the unlucky ones who were born poor, they probably have taken advantage of the riches of other people in the past so that is the lesson they need to learn in the present life - to be fair to others of other people in lower status. If they don't hold bitterness and accept that, they can be free from that karma even in the present life and begin to see changes if they are really strong enough to change their consciousness or have some major paradigm shift. Karma is created every minute, every second. It stems from a single thought and when we put emotion to the thought then it becomes a habit and we give life to it. So better we do good anyway.

Now that you have brought up the topic of Previous lives, then i think you do believe in Reincarnation? I do. actually and yes part of the cultural belief i was brought up with is to believe in the law of karma, whatever you do good, you are replaced with the same thing.. what goes around comes around... it sure will go back to you. =)

I believe in luck as much as I believe in dracula, ghost, and poltergiest..lol Come on sweetie...you cant be serious..lol There is something called predefined pattern. We may be born at what we feel wrong time, in wrong place, but everybody ...everybody gets his or her share of good luck. How we go about making the best from it is upon us. Like you give paper and pen to an artist, he will create a masterpiece. If you give same quality paper and pen to another one of his classmates who is not really interested in arts, but is there because he has not spent time thinking about what he wants to do with his life, you will find the paper in the dustbin. Obviously it means, you need goals, and you need to work towards them. You need to make sacrifices, and take your chances. And you need to be patient. And you need to have knowledge. Where is the luck factor here..lol

hello there, thank you for your discussion, i understand that you do believe only that we all are given fair chance, okay that is true and yes perhaps with those talents that we were given with, and the skills we acquired through out our life gains us our advantage in our life and that is still up to you, Just something to think about though, when you are given two sets of exams and say one is easier and the other is harder, your classmate picked out the easier one, even if you were the first to be given the chance, is it not his luck that he got the easy exam? Or to you, is that a mere coincidence? happy mylotting!

hello sriroshan, thank you for your response. I believe that is true, that hard work always helps us, but as our friend here has told us... we should also consider other things that may be involved and are equally as important in the determining of our success in everything we do.

No I believe in chances. Chances we take or we won't take for some reason (we don't see them, we are too scared). Bad can be changed into good if you are willing to take a chance. What I do believe in is the power of positive thinking. So a positive look at a situation will influence your/that situation. Lucky charms, the knowledge (by life experiences), idea, believe, dream you can make it/do it will help. What you call Chinese fengshui (date of birth plus time of birth) we call astrology. It's about the possible chances one can have in life, but it's not said that you will take them or can't change it. It's the same with your handlines. You are born with identical lines in both hands, but in one hand the lines will change if you change.. which means your life is changing and not everything as foresaid from the start will exactly happen that way. If nothing is changing in your life it means you did not learn your lesson, you are not taking the right way for you. Things will only change if you change (your habits, life style, behaviour).

Hi Kitty, This is a very good point that you have shared with us. I think i would like to agree on some points you discussed, like the chances offered to us in life, and only a matter of our decision whether we are to take it or not. I also believe in being positive, it always has been my "mantra" to be positive, to always say i can do it, i can pay for it, i can manage, it and i can have it... ultimately at the end of something i will have what i want, so this is true for my case. In astrology, yes, they can be guides, they can help you if you fully understand how to manage the ideas, told to you, and so on, some are just there to help you do more, improve and as you have said, change yourself, to change your life. Now back to what i thought originally, (as my mom insisted that if you are destined to be rich you will be rich, there will be a way, the world will conspire to give you that richness) i guess it is true, can be true for those who work hard but if you are destined to be rich and you sit around at your home watching tv all day, the person mylotting all day would have been richer than you are. =) Thank you so much Kitty for your response, really do love the ideas and thoughts you have on this discussion.

This is the thought process of those who choose not to believe in themselves and see outside through their window. Yes of course the way the person behaves has a lot to do with their so called "luck". I person maybe born in a rich family but is he happy or maybe a from a poor, will he be sad. It all depends upon their way of thinking. WEll, coming to your example, if a person is hardworking and industrious it does not stop with that. There is a saying in my second language, if you work like cow how can you expect to be successful like a human. What i mean to say is just working hard and grilling yourself doesnt guarantee your success, in fact there are lot of things involved like the right project, investing at the right time, observation and etc. I dont believe luck is involved in this sort off thing. If you concentrate and cover all aspect you can create luck. But i do believe in Karma and what you do now will eventually help you later. But not luck

Hi salma! i appreciate what you have shared with us here when it comes to the concept of hard work and luck- that them are side by side, but there are many other factors to consider. indeed people often leave out a few of these and tend to focus on the obvious without realizing that often it is not what is obvious that has helped one achieve whatever they planned to have reach at a certain point. I like the example of being someone/ something that you aren't yes... that can be true as well.

Well, maybe yes. There are things that are not meant for you no matter how hard you wanted them. I believe in good and bad karma as well. Yet I also believe that no matter how our stars describe who we are, we have our own choices to fulfill in life. Being unlucky doesn't always mean, we are not successful. We get what we deserve and not just what we desire. In the end of the day, we must embrace the good things we had and learn from the bad ones.

hi rizza, yes this is exactly what i have meant, that if you are not meant for something, whether you want to be famous, rich, to be a doctor, to be a soldier, a politician, if it is not meant for you, and it is not your luck, then no matter how much effort you try to put in, it is never going to happen, it is not yours, it is probably not going to happen. and for some one, who does want something, and he is meant for something greater, eventually everything will coincide with what is happening and then he will be even more greater than what he has hoped for.

sometimes im not fengshui or "pungsoy" or what ever they want to call it haha.. what i mean is a all the people born equal= no lucky man and no unlucky man. but I believe in the sayings that if you born with a birthmark in your buttocks the person that next to you is the unlucky man =( it is because I had a brother that he has a birthmark in his buttocks AND i am the unlucky man that next to him. there are many many problems and something bad happens on me in my life for the past, present, and future also hahah.. Have a good day =)

Actually it isn't about luck. Its called DESTINY. Whatever you get in this life has been already decided even before you were born based on your deeds in your previous lives. I believe that since everything is foretold and determined, choice is nothing but an illusion. Though it may seem that you are making the decisions, is more like you are destined to take this decision

Yeah, one's destiny - for me it is predetermined. similarly, when you are familiar with the book a purpose driven life, that before we all are even born, God already has plans for us, that he knows us... i am sure he has already given us potential, but then given that we have choices in life it is us that either delays our trip to where we are supposed to go, to who we are supposed to be.

I think that there is such a thing as luck that goes beyong what you deserve or not. Some people, as you say, are very hardworking, but they are not paid accordingly. The same thing happens with human relations. Some people find love and some don`t. I would say that luck plays a role.
