The internet buzz has it that Niki Minaj giving advice as an American Idol judge is like Taylor Swift giving advice on relationships and we all know how that works out for her. Anyway, apparently this season of American Idol has seen a dip of 20% in ratings compared to last season.I still remember the sarcasm and the wit of Simon Cowell and the original idol judges and compared to the latest season judges, the show seem to have lost a lot of lustre.Give me Simon anyday, the guy you love to despise because he can be cruel and charming at the same time and even the quirky Paula Abdul and Randy the dawg,it was a good threesome combination.Even J'lo and Steven Tyler were alright but the current batch of Mariah Carrey,Keith Urban,Randy and Niki Minaj doesn't seem too appealing. There's something about Niki Minaj that doesn't seem to fit as an American Idol judge. The others are acceptable but Niki Minaj seems to out of place as a judge.I have nothing personal against her just that her dispensing advice or acting as a judge somehow doesn't fit someplace, maybe its her age or her weird hairdo or dress up. If you have been watching the latest American Idol, what do you think of the new judges?

I use to watch the show, but was tired of the fighting and name calling of the judges. I'm not surprised the ratings have dropped for the show. There are times I think some shows just air to many years and audiences get tired of them.

I like Simon, who almost always told people when they couldn't sing to find another job. My problem with Simon was he wasn't always fair to all kinds of music, as he has said more than once he doesn't like country music. Sadly, we see these bias from many of the judges, who shouldn't judge during certain kinds of music. I would like to see certain judges leave their seat and have another judge fill in when that judge just doesn't like the music.

Some British just don't get country music thinking it a mild form of music compare to the edgier or soulful music of RnB or Rock n Roll or Lively jazz. At least Simon was upfront about it

i am the opposite of you in that i find the antics very entertaining , it is to me what makes good TV, too much niceties and it just becomes boring..loved the mean sarcsm and at times brutal at times condescending at times shockingly kind and charming comments Simon use to make. never fails to amaze me what he is capable of saying . the creative descriptive remarks that only he can think off , cruel or kind, it is amusing and at times annoying but never boring and predictable..when passing judgement on a contestant . I always eagerly anticipate what he is going to say ,never sure if it is going to be mean or kind, offensive or praising. that was to me the appeal of the show, even the name calling or supposedly in fighting and controversial judge contestant relationships intrigue me a enough to want to follow the show but no more i guess....now it feels like Just another ordinary talent show ..nothing remarkable at all..

There has been expression of distaste toward Nicki Minaj. You brought a point of her being a funky addition to the judging panel. Whether or not she would be a great judge, you just have to continue watching this season. Since you created this thread 4 weeks ago, you would probably have different opinion of the judges and the show after progression of time. During Hollywood week, I remembered exactly her comment at Paul Jolley. Paul tried to shake off his nervousness. She said to him, "...Just give us one minute of professionalism..." Regardless of how Nicki has been perceived, I knew that she is not going to be all soft. Among a bunch of drama, weaknesses, and tears, I would welcome her toughness. She will not be a new Simon Cowell as some would probably think, but I hope she would continue this way. As American Idol got to the current Vegas week (end of February), I started to notice inconsistency on her. For some reason, I will have to get used to her saying "I am obsessed with you....". I hope she would not overdo this for the rest of the season. For the rest of the judging panel, we get to see them talk a lot more now. Like it or not, they seem to be better than when Steven Tyler and JLo were on. Steven Tyler did not really have much constructive feedback at last year's AI besides a bunch of 'beatiful' words. J Lo would be like what you would hear from Mariah Carey today and Keith Urban. Well, I probably would come back here again and share more thoughts.

Quite frankly , i hardly watch AI , just seem so boring. everybody is just too nice or not blunt enough.. past seasons, i anxiously waited for next instalment to follow the contestants and see if my choices correlate with the judges and the American voting audience, but this year, just felt no appeal at all, couldn't be bothered to watch a whole episode before switching channels., Ex diva , Diva wannabe , a too nice Ozzie country crooner and AI mascot.nothing personal but something about Nicki just grates on my nerves..maybe it is that duck like squealing nasal voice tone, just cannot take her seriously, facial expressions are annoying..all the judges seem to lack something that draws audiences to want to watch them and hang on everyword they say...not sure what word to use but closest i can come is the word "respect" ...and that is i cannot bring myself to respect their opinions, no matter what thy say about the contestants or what they think about the performances or songs, just dull , nothing thought provoking or" in your face as it is"blunt and brutal" style of Simon or the quirkly but soft Paula and J LO , there was passion that can be felt by us viewers , even Steven Tyler reticence has appeal.sometimes unexpectedly he says something that catches you off guard although most times he doesn't seem to be all there..somehow or rather , they were able to pick the right contestants that appeal and will root for.but not this year,or maybe i am getting sick of the sad sob background stories which AI seems to like to feature, gagging on it..! All the ex judges opinions when i was a fan o AI , i really listened seriously to what they said n matched it with what i viewed..maybe it is the format or the chemistry of everything/ every component in the show. This season , there is a huge component missing.???

I seem to get the idea that you don't like Nicki Minaj and somehow you're not the only one. Maybe many don't like her become she seems to look obnoxious with that wig or some colored hair. Maybe people think of her as simply a 'b i t c h'. Rap music could also play a part. There are not very many female rappers. The fact that Nicki Minaj has become so popular doesn't carry to mainstream taste. I don't know how popular Nicki Minaj is in Malaysia, but she is one of the most active rappers in the last two years, even more active than male rappers. As I make this comment, AI has already announced Top 10. It would be interesting to see how the judges will be consistent. I will certainly be back here for more comments.

I have to agree with you there. There is really something wrong with the new set of judges. It seems also that Nicki is somehow out of place there without her would be fine already I wonder why they inserted her as a judge. I think she looks like she is not that serious in judging and there are times that she has this mood that other judges do not like about her.

There is just no energy with the new set of judges..watching the show and the judges just feels so uninteresting , remembered i use to love to anticipate what Simon is going to say everytime a terrible audition is over..thinking, this is going to be interesting , eagerly waiting to see if he will maul the contestant or maybe hang loose and not so mean..no more of that

I was closely following last year's American Idol because Jessica Sanchez who emerged second placer caught my interest. But this year, I have not really seen any of the episodes. I just lost interest or maybe I really don't have the time to sit and watch. So the ratings dropped by 20 percent. Ohhh, they really need one big kick but who and how? Simon Cowell is one of a kind but certainly he is not coming back. The 4 new judges I have yet to hear though. Maybe I would find time to watch and see if you are right in your opinion. Thank you for sharing.

I have nothing against the other judges because Mariah Carey IS Mariah Carey. Keith Urban is really a good artist but Nicki Minaj?! I dont know.. she maybe popular, today, but she needs to prove herself first (as for my opinion). Has she won any grammy's yet? Im not sure because I really am not a fan.

It is difficult to match the original line up of AI judges , Simon gave the show credibility as a serious high calibre talent seeking show, Paula gave it heart , Randy was like the doggy mascot who does have his moments, mostly pitchy in places. later Kara brought a bit of balance to the show...all with impressive credentials in the music scene, as producers , choreographer and singer ,songwriter. Then came J LO who ,i guess, gave the show a bit of glamour or BLING and softness in place of Paula and rocker Steve Tyler gave the show a feel of eccentricity and true blue old school Rock and Roll and with Randy ,looking at them , without saying , somehow we just sense that there are many many decades of experience in the music industry, from the early 1970s to present day between them , witnesses to the evolution of the music industry , so they probably know what they are talking about and will be able to recognise real unique talent when they spot it , all the above named are highly credible judges of musical ability . but with the latest batch , try as i might , i cannot seem to take them seriously, this combination falls flat. Think.. AI has already reached the peak of the mountain and so now there is nowhere else to go but down.

Point agreed. I don't whether its just me or somebody else but I've never felt like Minaj was fit to make music. There was actually a comment on Minaj's video song "Bees in the trap" saying that "this p**n has bad music". As soon as I saw that comment I was dying with laughter :D The other judges are only OK. I mean maybe its because we know how good the previous judges were. Maybe that is why we feel this way.

Undeniably Nicki Minaj can sing or carry a tune but then again so can the really good contestants on AI , some even better, but she is popular coz of the gimmicky wardrobe and hairstyle that draws her attention and popularity, take that away, she is just another ordinary singer ,nothing special. think the show is heading to limbo. wondered who was the one with the bright idea of roping her as a judge, feels more like sabotage than trying to revive the show. if my assessment is corrrect, the AI fan base of millions from middle america, country music lovers who makes up a huge percentage of those who voted might be turned off by finding it hard to relate to her gimmicky costumes n silly hairdo , how can anyone take the show and the judging seriously now when you have the AI mascot"dawg" a pop singing diva , a Ozzie who sings american country music. and of course an "over the top" costumes and hairstyle almost going to be diva singer.none of which seem to have the charisma of what it takes to be a AI judge..all seemingly sooo nice , it is gagging..before i looked forward to the show , now i actually change channels when it comes on..just ordinary to the point of just another boring amateurish talent show..

Well, I do not watch that show. However, I have been watching several such serial Reality shows. I have observed that the first anchor/judge always remains the best, no matter how he/she had anchored/judged. First remains forever!

There is nothing really that extra ordinary about the judges on this season... I totally miss Steven Tyler... he was like a breath of fresh air i wish he did not leave... the show can do away with any Diva because they can always be replaced by another diva... but someone with the personality of Steven Tyler is one of a kind... Nikki is boring... Keith is very pleasing to the eyes... and Mariah very classy and knowledgeable when it comes to singing technique... put them all together and we have a very ordinary American Idol season... Well... still early in the season... a lot of things can change with the contestants who will land the coveted to 20 spot...

Yes i think that ORDINARY is the operative word for this Idol , When the original judges was on the show i try not to miss any episodes , not only because of the talent but also i get entertained by the antics and the "to your face remarks " of the judges to the not so talented auditions. Then J Lo and Steve Tyler came , and the show lost the brutal frankness of Simon and the genuinely soft hearted Paula with Randy as the neutralizing presence between the two. Felt balanced when the threesome were judging the show. Then 2nd , nobody wanted to be mean and frank, and now ordinary and unappealling

I have not watched American Idol yet this season, but I dont like Nikki Manaj.I dont think Nikki is a good singer and doesnt give good advice. Too many of the new judges say yes to everything and are too nice. Also the show was better when simon paula and randy were the only judges. Simon didnt just say yes all the time. Yeah he was mean it seemed but he always told the truth and told u what u did wrong and said no when he felt he had to. I'm sorry we lost the judges we had originally because i liked them best.

I think that it has gotten too nice as well. The judges reluctant to be perceived as a mean judge and consequence is the show suffers from jusst too much niceness , if there is such a word..

From what I observe, there are still some idol fanatics out there still watching the show. But for this season, this season is boring, also the talents on the show are not that interesting compared to the past seasons. No one can surpass the previous season. Sad.

I don't watch AI anymore, because it's always the white guy with guitar who wins. My favorite judges, however, was Kara Dioguardi, she's an amazing judge because she's a true musician, and of course the two males, Randy and Simon. AI has never been the same since they changed judges. Last season I tried to watch some episode because of Jessica Sanchez. And Jennifer Lopez seemed like she was reading some script or notes while she was talking to the contestants. I'm wondering why some people still watch the show though. Just my two cents! Peace!

Think country music is what AI is trying to hard sell down the world's throat...like some hidden conspiracy agenda to brainwash millions to like American country music, chorus.. country roads , please go home ....to the place you belong...., west virginia ,or wherever.....gimme the blues......... anyday!!

Long Live Simon and his brutal remarks which if we really listen to , it does make sense, many times i noticed when he was an Idol judge and he says something about an auditioning talent or non talent, it makes a lot of sense and straight to the point True...no disguising it with tactful- not wanting to hurt feelings type of remarks like Paula or J Lo or Steve Tyler but tell it as it is yet he can be kind at times and downright mean or cruel more often...especially during the beginning when we see that many of the auditioners need the honest brutal truth. But if you noticed Simon's comments as a judge at the latter part when the real talents have been picked, tend to be constructive and no longer intentionally mean.

Ordinary , too nice and now boring , so far these are the remarks MyLotters have commented on the latest season Judges , AI seems to be heading to limbo , it has lost a lot of the original appeal and enthusiastic anticipation of viewers who can't wait to see what Simon would say or how Paula will react. Randy has always just been a side decoration or mascot to the original judges, then J LO and Steve Tyler ,but at least there was appeal in the quirky mix of a rock star n a sexy siren diva pop star..and.. errr .. Randy who??
