2008 financial crisis

I'm writing a paper on this 2008 global financial crisis, how it started in America and spread around the world. I'd like to know if anyone who knows their stuff could tell me what type of crisis is this particular one classified as.
Would you say this is a banking crisis, currency crisis, liquidity or foreign debt crisis or perhaps it is a mixture of more than one?
I know a major part of it all revolves around the banking sector which is why I'm leaning towards naming it a banking crisis but I'd like to know what you think.

It is termed as the Credit Crunch in th UK - when the credit dried up, because capitalism can not work without credit
