Yesterday i take my princess to the clinic, for her check up and get her vaccine. She is six(6) months old and weighting 31 pounds, yes she is over weight.
I started giving her formula, when she was much smaller and breast at night.Since lately she doesn't want the formula only breast.
She is only taking formula now,and the nurse said that i can start to give her soft food.
how can i start her on a diet ? what can i give her now apart from the breast milk and soft food so that she can loose some pound?

You can give her any stage one baby food some bread and potatoes. My son eats a lot and he is 5 months and 16lbs he eats small amounts of baby food to help with his hunger. We started with apples then bananas.

Orange juice oh no that is bad do not give a child that at that age. that is too acidy for a young child it's just formula at that age nothing else. Some times it's okay to give small amounts of water like 2oz and that is it.
What ever you do don't give your child more then one food iteam a week when interducing it for the first time because babies can have food allergies and if you give them different things in the same week you won't know what set it off and some times it'll happen more then ones. It's best to start with one and do that for a good couple of days then go to the next food to try.

Your welcome. Some doctors don't tell parents and then they wonder why something happens to a baby or why a parent calls all upset and worried.
I'm full of tips. I have two little one of my own and been throw this once before and just starting on all of this with my son.

You do not want to make her lose weight as much as keep her steady and let her grow into it. Try getting her moving in other ways clapping, waving, bopping. All will help her burn calories in a healthy fashion. My BIL was 18 lbs by the time he was one month old, my mother in law never cut his food and he grew to be an overly skinny 6 foot 4 inches! She just made him run around as much as she could.

Honestly, she is just a baby and there is no reason at all that you should be concerned about her weight at this point in time. There are some children that go through the first year of their life and remain very small while there are other children that get very big during the first year of their life. That said, I don't think that it is ever a good idea to put a very small child like your daughter on a diet. Try to limit how much formula she is given in the course of a day and that might be something that will keep her from gaining too much weight.

I don't think that you should do anything else except just to give your child nutritious food. Kids reach a certain month wherein you would notice that they have barely added a pound. Just start giving mashed fruits and vegetables and of course, milk. A child really does not weigh the same as what the standard weight that doctor says. Dieting can be done when your kid grows older. Just do not over feed your child so that you would get problems in the weight later on. But for now, the weight is fine. She is only 6 months, after all.

Thanks, tash01! Just let your kid enjoy and explore the different tastes and texture of food. Coz in doing so, you will surely not be having problems in what to feed her when she grows up. If we limit the food that we give our children in such an early age, they would grow up to be picky eaters and that will be a bigger problem.

Since she seems to be eating healthy foods, make sure she is not eating too much. Maybe her dad is making her bigger bottles of formula or is expecting her to finish a bottle every time she eats? When she cries, try to everything else to soothe her before assuming it is hunger. If nothing else works, then feed her something nourishing. And solid food may be a good idea. Liquid may not be making her feel full, so then she will take in too much liquid to compensate.
Stay away from juice--it is all the sugar of fruit with none of the fibre. Any fruit should be pureed, and try to feed her mostly pureed vegetables, very little fruit and very little potatoes. She will grow into her weight if what she eats is healthy, and she doesn't eat when she isn't hungry.
If this plan doesn't work, maybe she should be tested in case she has a medical condition causing the weight gain. But it is probably nothing. Lots of kids gain no weight for months, then gain a whole bunch at once and get chubby, then even out again!
