Do You Respond To Short Discussions?

i don't even waist my time. i see short discussions and i move on, because i know they will get deleted. the rules states that you can't have any one liner discussions, so why do i see people who have been here for a while still posting short discussions. those are the same people who will turn around and wonder why their post got deleted. i understand new people. i will even stop by and respond just to let them know that their discussion was too short and will probably get deleted. this is just to be nice so they will know. older people, though should know better, so i don't even waist my time. tell me, do you respond to short post?

I don't see length of discussion, either its short or long; if its worth a reply i'll reply on it.

well, the whole point of the discussion being too short is that mylot's rules say that a short post will be deleted. it may be a good question, but why bother responding if the post is just going to get deleted anyway.

Hi, MoonGypsy. I can't help myself sometimes to answer posts I know will be deleted. Some times I'm just that bored or really want to say whats on my mind to that person. I guess we don't earn from such posts, but I'm not thinking about that at the time.

i guess you are right. i never though about it that way. sometimes i guess you can get carried away just responding to all the different good post out there, that you don't care. if you have something to say on the matter i guess you would just respond if you are interested in the topic. i still wouldn't want my post to be delete. just for the principle, not even because of the pay.

Oh azmodan, please post in any link you find where I claim to know everything. Thank you very much. You sure seem to think you know people when you don't have the attitude of a female dog.

The length of the post is not what makes me consider whether posting or not. It is the discussion itself. I have to say that I have seen some short discussions that are well worth responding to. Some people have the art of saying a lot with just a few words. Likewise, I have seen some fairly long posts that are nothing but glorified polls and they say absolutely nothing worth responding to.

those glorified polls are really the ones that get me. people should save that for facebook.

You got my vote on that one..sid556! Kind of a reflection on my real life...I get "antsy" with long-windedness...and often lose the point of the whole discussion!

I will respond to it if it interest me. That's about it. I really don't look at the length of the discussion. And like so many others, I really don't care if it gets my response deleted because the discussion was deleted. I only pass up discussions if they have no interest to me.

I agree. Its the same for me. As long as the discussion is discusable, now does length matter, and why should it. Some people are good with words and some not. So length is of hardly any consequence.

I do not recall coming across any one-liners specially by veterans. They know the rules. If I saw them I would wonder why seniors would do that.

not window dressing is one thing, but asking a question like, "which is better vanilla or chocolate" is really cutting it short to nothing. in the beginning, i used to do short post, too. they all got deleted. i never knew that it started not mattering again. i am not saying that some one liner post can't be good. i have seen some great ones. i only thought it was against the rules and would get deleted. btw, i never claimed to be "all knowing", but if you want to give me that power....

My dear "allknowing"...I feel that some of the most provocative postings here, can be short and succinct. Getting to the point, without all the window dressing! Good night, dearheart....sleep well!

perga...You have not understood me. I am the one who is not in favour of long topics and in this context I had posted a topic a long time ago and got brick bats for that http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2336930.aspx

No. Even if it's not deleted, I still don't want to respond. I don't think I can get much knowledge from a short discussion.

well, someone is one my side. many poster here say they can get more from one-liners then they can from longer post. i think they may have a slight point though. we may have to try it out. it will just be funny if you end up talking more than the poster.

I like spicy short discussion than long ones taking forever to get to a point , its like reading a book . I skip out most of those novel discussion . I would not like to see a one line discussion asking about shoes size , favorite colors those are just plain useless . If the one line is asking something serious then I may answer if I find it interesting though .

I don't go by the length of the discussion i go by the topic and weather or not it interests me. Short long doesn't matter to me as long as it can be responded to and is of an interesting topic.

Usually here in mylot if I am responding to any discussions I won't see whether it is one line discussion or not. I respond to those discussions which I think I can answer their queries or clear their doubts. I know before responding to that discussions whether the question will be deleted or my answer also could be deleted. But I really don't care for it. As far as I am concerned my job is to help that person id I can.

It really depends on how short it is, as if has substqance, and one I can reply to, then i will respond. I don't however do all the one liners, unless someone is needing help, then I will respond, knowing full well, that it more than liely will be deleted. Now, if the user is just asking a question and there isn't anything to it, then no, I won't answer it, as I know it will get deleted. I like to help people as much as I can, and if that means responding to one liners, then I will respond. Take care, and have a very good day.

no that's fine. i see that most poster hear really are only concerned with the quality of the post. like i said, i myself have been guilty of responding to short post. short post or not the ones that get deleted. it's those one liner poll type questions that belong on facebook.

I sometimes reply to short discussions when I think that is is interesting enough. I have noticed that those who post short discussions are those who are having difficulties with English and could not express themselves very well. But discussions that clearly beings "non-sense", I just move on.

I normally will not post to one line discussions, not because of it possibly being deleted, but because what I would say would just the same as the other people who have already responded most of the time. If I have something new and of value to one line discussions I might add it but they don't normally give a lot of room for elaborations and discussion so there really isn't that much point.

I do agree with you, new people do not know about this rules because most of them probably learn the rules while they are active in Mylot and they get to know from every mistakes they did. Sometimes it is good to inform the new member about this rules. I most probably will never reply to all short discussions. Carry on in our work is too save our time. Thank you for posting this topic, buddy

For the most part, shorter discussions, especially one lines, makes me wonder as they never really take any time to talk about anything, and most of the time even if these discussions never get deleted, the person will never take the time to come back and respond back in them as well. So unless they are someone New to here, they need to remember it is about quality over quantity that counts.

Fortunately the short discussions are very few and far between when I get notifications from my friends, very rarely do I see any, but if I do I just delete them. Sometimes both old and new members need to be reminded of this.

I respond to discussions that aren't just a question. I know those will be deleted. Most of the older people have some interesting discussions.

I hardly care about the length of the discussion. I find the topic worth giving opinion about, I give it, otherwise I dont. I sometimes prefer short or medium length discussions as you can get the gist of the discussion faster.

Hello MG, Really it does depend on what they are trying to say not all of us are born writers like I was never an artist I have to look up how to draw this and that and that is how I have learned how to draw some difficult things. With this I am trying to say that it does not come out of a person right away to just write and write so if I see that they are trying to say or ask something I will try to answer in the best way I can. One liners I have answered and they did not get deleted but this was ages ago they started off with one line I answered back with a longish post and they answered back more or less the same way see what I mean?xxx

Sometimes, if the start is worth discussing. See, a 'start' (short or long) does not a 'discussion' make! The discussion starts when someone responds. If I judge that there's no way anyone could ever respond to a discussion-start, I will (no matter HOW 'long' it is) report it. Lord Jesus tells us not to judge, though. So I probably won't.
