I got a call tonight, while I was working at my new job from my boss from the other store. I caalled her back, she even complained while she was firing me.
She refused to give me a reason, I asked why and she said performance. I really don't know if Pet Valu would call and basically say she's working here now, or if she pulled something out of her rear.
They are giving me an extra week pay, she said as an appreciation. I think it's a severence pay to basically cover their rears, as they didn't give me 3 notices before firing me using the excuse of performance.

It sounds to me like your suspicions are correct and if that's the case I would go after them for that. Working two jobs is no reason to be fired at either of them. They gave you a lame reason and paying you off to keep quiet.

I have been getting more hours at this new job, he showed me the schedule, I work tonight 4 -8, tomorrow 1 -6, then Wednesday 2 -6, then Friday 4 -8, Saturday 2 - 6, then work Wednesday, Thursday , Friday and Saturdays while he is on holidays. He is willing to give me more hours, and work with me.
But there was nothing in the contract about working for the competitor.

Its good you've got this other job. It sounds to me like you're making a solid case out of this so far and if I were you I would consider taking it up with someone.

Well if that particular thing is in their contract the boss could have stated that as a reason, which she didn't.

Make them give you a written reason for your termination. I think you can fight this as wrongful termination. Is there anything in your employment contract that says you can't work for a compeitor? If not, then they don't have a reason.
You can push for written notice of why you were fired. Make them pinpoint exactly their reasons. What they told you is too vague. I believe you can make a case against them.

Nope, nothing in thr contract saying not work for the competitor.
They have to give me a letter of dismissal within 8 days business days or firing me.
I was never given any writen warnings, or verbal warnings. But I read the employement standard act if they more or less brib you with a termination pay then they don't have to give you a reason, or notice.
I wil call the labour board Monday, to make sure.

hi there... I think that was rather inappropriate of hem to just let you go without proper notice. I dont know about you butif they did this to other people they would have been filed a case in labor.
They said its performanbe, but thisyou also have toknow and agree with. They cant assessed yourperformance and they not tekl you about you.

hi that is surprising and yes they legally must give a reason so you have a grievance to file with the labor board. I was fired only because I was old according to what my manager told me. I asked der if my work was satisfactory and she told me I was the best worker she had. What she did not tell me but I had overheard the second in command under her did not want elderly
people working in her library this I overheard. I did not file with the labor board but library headquarters notified me the firing was illegal and come back to work. The manager and her assistant were both fired. But it did me no good as I had had a b d fall fracturing my left shoulder and had to have a shoulder joint replacement. As I did not regain much use of my left arm there was no way I could any longer shelve media in the library .
I hope you will file for whats due you .

That is horrible, but I knew a lady who I worked with at my old job that happened too. I stood up for her and they fired both of us. I read the employment standard act, they can fire you on the spot but have to pay a termination pay.
I didn't like the job anyways, so my feelings arn't hurt. Plus, I had this other job lined up.

I am sorry to be hear of your plight with your employment. If you lose your job then I think you are ctinly entid to know the reasons why. I would go to your employer and and let him or her know that you would like to know the reasons and causes of your termination. Good luck to you.

Hi I see in the comments that you are working
at there competitor store.most likey that the reason.
a lot of store have rules that if you work the competitor store
they will fire the person on the spot.you should first gave the old
the 2 week notice.on the other hand I know jobs if you give a
2 week notice. some of the jobs will fire the person the next day.
and if it a part time job low wage most of them is at will empoyemnt
either party can leave and the job does not have give that person anything extra
they do have to pay them for all the hours that person work.
I tell freinds all way read the jobs hand book .ok have good day.

Performance? You? That's a laugh! You could fight it, if you wanted to, but it's probably not worth the effort.

I will wait to get the paperwork, and will see what it says. But reading the employment standard act, they are giving me a termination pay, which then they don't need a written warning, or even statement, they basicaally pay you to get lost.
But you are right, I will call and just make sure I have this right. But it's not worth the hassle anyways.

It's funny how she says she's paying you as an appreciation, and yet her reason for firing you is performance. That makes no sense. If you performance wasn't up to their standards, why would they appreciate it?
An obvious (bad) excuse to fire you.

Well it's always sounded as if she was being tough on them, you out lasted that and were doing a great job, but apparently she wanted to make you leave. Now down here they do that (though no place will admit it) so that they don't have to pay benefits. Walmart does that down here.

The appreciation pay is actually a termination pay. If they fire you on the spot with no just cause they are required to basically pay you for a week or two weeks after. More like sorry, here's some money have a nice day.
I agree, why wouldn't they write me up, and then fire me not wasting more money to pay my termination pay.
It is, I thought the manager was going to cry. I ebleive I am the first person who has been fired. Everyone else usually leaves long before, becwause they can't take it anymore.

Sometimes I feel it is a blessing in disguise to be let go from a job. I have been let go when I was sick. I was out too many days. So in my case, it was a blessing since I was still sick and couldn't work much. I got to heal and rest. I did have some bad feelings about it, but I got over it quickly and got another job. I wish you the best. Good luck!
