hi to all well, standard of living is my favorite topic, also now I study commerce, in which we should study If we decrease our expenses we are rich & If we increase our expenses we are poor (so sorry for my open English) after calculating all my expenses I assume that Me & my family easily survive within $700 per month. but its just I calculate, still far away for this figure, so many peoples here??? can you survive in $700 per month??? have a nice day.

Hmmm.. If for the whole family, it will be hard for us to survive with that amount if I am to compare it with our current earning (again, as a family). But tell you, that amount is too much for some other families. So in short you are still very fortunate. :) You have shelter, can eat and even studying, you can even use computer. It's a proof that you're not even included to those people that can't even have time to spend on things like this. I am even grateful you are living well I can say it ;) Cheers and let's be thankful we are living at least a normal life.

I am in the States and that would be nearly impossible to live on. Most apartments cost more than that per month and do not include cost of heat and electricity. then there is food, gas for the car etc.

I have to survive on $897 a month since I'm on social security. I don't think I would be able to on $700 a month. I have to be very careful as it is. I have the cheapest cable and cell phone. I don't even have a camera on my cell phone.

Yes, certainly.. I can save still 400$ still. I am living very modestly. I don't spend more than I earn. ( hahaha I don't have money to spend) I can live I don't buy unnecessary things except if I like to eat something I crave for. and the cost of living where I am is so cheap.

Vandana... it is just like this. my food and house are both free. There is no shopping malls around, the neighbors give me fruits, and sometimes food, I just pick up or knock down fruits like papaya from the trees. LOL. so I just spend for my toiletries... and other stuff that I like to eat like chips.. and yes lots of coffee... I live alone and I don't need househelp

Well, you said that you calculate this for you and your family. If you are a talking about a family (I don't know how big you are referring to) it's very difficult. It also depends on the country, 700$ have a tremedous different power of buying in different countries. I use, for my own living, something like 700$ and I believe I'm poor (I pay also the rent with this money). There are a lot of things I can't buy or do, and when it comes to holidays it's really difficult. Still, in my country, there are a lot of people who survive with 200-250$ on month. It's very sad, because the most are retired, and almost all the money goes on house expenses and medicines. Some people eat just potatos almost every day.

Potatoes is expensive food in here - poor people will eat noddles everyday or worst maybe they could eat junk - literally. I'm not rich too - but at least I still could pay my rent . You'll be surprised how much the money I spent to pay the rent permonth. It's only about USD30 , and I could spend about USD 80 permonth for the food. But I yes I also always worry about holidays - I have to do "fasting" for a couple days to be able spend my real holidays with friends. So average I could spend about USD 110 - 150 permonth for my own living (So you aren't not that poor, in my country at least.) But still - I'm not poor in here. Well maybe because the majority people in here are like me so I won't be seemed as a poor one.

I'm also in my country above average, I would be really ungrateful to call myself poor. But still, living it's difficult and I can't make any savings. I guess this is the main difference between developed countries and less developed like ours - the lack of a strong medium class (that afford at least to enter whenever they want in any supermarket and buy whatever they feel like). It's a too big gap between poor and rich.

I think i ca survive with 700$ a month, i think i can even survive on just 200$ per month but the I'd have to be really frugal and then I'd have to stay in a small apartment with no air conditioning so that i can pay for an Internet connection, i dont think i can live without Internet at all i need Internet like food, water and sleep. i dont eat so much so i think i will be fine, and i dont have a family either just myself so i guess that is more than enough.

So cost of living in Philippines is pretty low I guess..you didnt mention how much it would cost you to rent your premises.

It is very low. The apartments especially in or province, they cost 2000 pesos a month, thats like 40 dollars. And then in a day, one can live with just 100 pesos for food, so that would be 2 dollars a day. I even know someone from college who was able to stretch that 2 dollars for a whole week given they have a refrigerator. In my case, since i dont cook, it has to be 2 dollars per day.

no way. i think at least i need about $1000 for all the expenses especially if you do have family and that you are the one that is putting food at the table. when you have to work for the whole family. $700 a month would only cover bills, but it would not be enough if you haven't got some more to pay for the othe expenses.

Wow what a shot,we hardly earn 100$/month,and sometimes,my family can't earn, even 100$. Talking about $700 is very far away yet now, because if i can even earn 200$ that will be very sufficient for my living. I am a simple living, simple thinking, and simple earning person. I hope you're earning atleast $500minimum per month, and i really appreciate that. That $1000. Happy going uh.

Wow...then you and me would have a lot to discuss. :) Standard of living. :) Out here, 700 dollars would be a decent sum...we are two..me and my father, but include my maid...half..because she has her three meals here. So you could say 2.5 members. Our expenses are near about 22500 INR as of date. That is about 425 dollars. That includes, food, transport, and maid's services...but excludes rent. Rent for a similar accommodation would be near about 17000 to 19000 ...that is well about 320 dollars...so no...we in India cannot manage within that if we have to include rent. Of course, this expense that I have mentioned to you includes power charges including charges for Air Conditioner in our hot summers. That is one thing we need to cut down. And Geyser charges in winter. Rest is something based on the minimum standard of living.

Excluding rent...a family of 2.5 like ours would need anywhere near 50000 to 55000 INR now...that is almost a 1000 USD. That would include building maintenance, medical insurances, taxes, and provision for old age. But then, I do not have much of my age remaining to plan for. So such things differ from person to person I think because age, and other factors like earning, health, social habits, etc. matter.

$700 would definitely be a lot of month for a kid. For adults, it depends on where you live. It is definitely not enough to live in California and many states in the US. In order to live with $700 in the US, one has to be able to live rent free or pay a minimum share amount of rent. He/She can only spend about less than $100 in food and grocery per month. Expenses like bills and utilities should be no more than $200 approximately. It would be easier if one is single. Forget about going out, dating, shopping, and etc.

Well, I can really say that we could survive a month with $700 here in my country. In fact, I can even save for the future with that amount.

It depends on the members of family and the life style in the country. If you're alone, you can live with such ammount but if you're responsible about other members, I think that will by kind of difficult.

Hello Tushavi! Well for me personally yeah bcause I pay my dad ( still live with him ) $160 a fortnight and help out with bills every now and then so for me I could easaily survive with $700 month and also since I like to save money, I wouldn't be spending much either. Happy MyLotting. ~AussieGal~

It all depends on the city you live in and life style you choose. But, in real terms if a person is living on a rented house in a metro city, $700 per month is bit difficult to lead a luxury life and if you have kids going to school and a car then the amount is not enough even to live from hand to mouth.

I'm in Vancouver, Canada, and nobody here could live on just 700 a month. A friend of mine has a bachelor apartment (no bedroom) and she pays 1000 per month just for that. Plus you need a car or transit pass to get around, at least 100 per month, and bills like phone, internet, power, etc, come to a few hundred per month, so we're already up to around 1400, and thats not including food or going out or anything else, that's just the basic basics... At the same time though, even if you just have a part time minimum wage job, you'll be making over 1000 per month, but I don't know anyone that's making less then about 1600 per month and some people I know share an apartment or basement suite for as low as 400 per month, per person... so living isn't difficult. It seems like we have higher expenses, but we make more money...

Well here n the Azores the minimum salary is 685 dollars not including the discounts they need to make so it is actually less. The prices rise and so do our salaries but if you know how to manage then you can make it. Portugal isnt in a very good situation right now so everything in 2013 is going to be diferent to see if the goverment gets enough money to pay off their debt and raise a bit the minimum salary. We can only hope.

Like everyone has said, it really depends on where you live. My family of 3 can survive on about $1900 CAD per month if we do not buy any extras -- we make our own meals from scratch from cheap groceries, and never order take out, go out to the movies or to do anything fun, and don't buy anything like clothing or fun things that are not absolutely needed. Of course, our rent is $1156 per month for a small 3 bedroom townhouse. We want to keep that third bedroom because another little one is on the way, but if we really needed to we could downsize to a 2 bedroom apartment in a bad neighbourhood for about $900 a month. This would include utilities, saving us about another $150 a month, so if we really made every sacrifice we could live on about $1500 a month, which is considered far below the poverty line for a family of four here. Single people could perhaps frugally live on $700 a month here, but even if they just rented a single small room that would take up about half of that 700 right there.

hi, i think that amount here in my country can live for a month, because $700 when it will converted to our money rate it will really good amount for me to live for a month,i think in your place or other country who have the same rate as yours couldn't be.

HI TUSHAVI, fOR me I will be an dramatic sistuation for that : live with less than 700 dollars. But in Africa more people live with less than 01 dollars each day. Ithink it is possible somewhere in the other part of the world.
