Would you go as far as beating up your friend to get ahold of the keys.........

You know your friend has had way to much to drink and that they shouldn't be driving at all. But they keep on insisting that they are going to drive and that there is nothing you can do about it. And they keep ahold of their keys and keep telling them to leave you alone. Would you go as far is to beat the crap out of your friend until they release the keys or what would you do? I don't know what I would do, but I guess I would do whatever it took to keep them from going in the car. Because I would feel really bad to just see them walk out like that drunk and just drive off. And then they would put their lives on the line as well as other people's lives on the line driving drunk. So I guess if it took me to throw a few punches and whatever to get them to release the keys then so be it. They'll probably thank me for it later. What about you would you beat up your friend or family member to keep them from driving drunk?

I do not know what I would do, because in either situation, you would made to feel you are in the wrong. If you beat your friend up, she or he might scream for the police and they might not think and assume that you and he or she were having a fight and if the other one is lighter then you, you would be blamed. I would probably call for someone to help. like maybe a police officer or some authorative looking person. And if I could not grab the keys, I would call the police and give them her or his license number.

I think calling the cops would be a logical thing to do as well. I mean try to block them from going into the car and calling the cops while you are trying to keep them from getting in and if they still were to get away, then I would call the cops with the license plates number. But if they hit you first and got all mad and starting hitting you then it would be self defense as well. Then when the cops were to come over they would most likely see that you friend is drunk anyway. And most likely take your word over your friends.

That would be true. If he or she swung at you, and hit you, when the police came after you gave the license number and description of the car, they would see the bruises and naturally when they arrest your former friend, they will believe you more then him or her.

I would never get into this situation. Over here it's normal you discuss/agree about who is driving and so.. who is able to drink. Also (heavy) drinkers would never be friends of mine. I also would never step into a car someone who did drink (even if it was only 1 glass) was driving. I would offer to drive or find an other way to get home. I doubt I would win it from a drunk friend by beating him/her up not to make him/her drive the car.

I don't think I would find myself in this situation either. Because most of my friends don't drink any more. Now that I think about it even if I were to try and fight them just to get the keys from their hands I don't think I would win either. I would probably just get myself badly beat up. Most of my friends are a lot bigger then me. I wouldn't either get into a car with someone who has been drinking either and neither would I get behind the wheel of a car even if I had one glass to drink. I don't trust myself to drive anyway with one glass of drink. So I too would just call a taxi and if my friend insisted on driving, then I'd just call the cops.

that could be a tricky one, as there could be assault charges involved. i don't know what i would do in that situation. knowing me, i would probably feel i have no choice but let them go off and make their free will choice. i would be worried for them, and mad about the fact that another person on the road may not have a choice to avoid an accident where they have been drinking and driving. i don't know, it's a hard one.

That's true I suppose with the charges and everything. I guess maybe the only other logical thing to do is to call the police on them and tell them the license plate and tell them there is a drunk driver on the road.

I think I would do everything too to stop them from driving. But I will not be beating a friend up when I'm drunk and would like to drive. It's weird that the friend beat up a friend for the keys. I guess there were words that provoked the drunk. But still, that's a poor excuse. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

What if you were the sober one, but then you know what beating up on a drunk person could probably cause more health problems. But I was watching this movie and this guys brother was drunk and he insisted on driving and the guy got angry and they got into a really big fist fight and eventually the guy just let go of the keys.

If I'm the sober one, then I'm going to have lots of patience. I may personally just drop him/her off her/his home then just leave his/her car in the parking lot for the night. Safer than sorry - as always.

Yeah that's true, but if they didn't give up the keys. Would you then just let them go and call the cops. Or would you still try to get the keys?

I'd probably do the same. I wouldn't want my friend to drive herself that drunk which may lead to an accident. It would bother my conscious all my life.

I think it would bother my conscious a lot too. The whole point is to keep them from getting into the car period. And a lot can happen from them just backing out of that parking spot.

I will always try to make that person not to drive. I can't say surely that I would beat anyone up for that. If I can't force them out of the vehicle by just telling, I will try to ask others help to do so. I don't think I would beat up anyone.

I wouldn't get into it physically with this friend. I would try to get them interested in something else so I could get their keys from them. I would try very hard to get this accomplished.

In that specific case you mentioned I probably would be tempted to throw them a few punches, too. I am not someone who likes to be violent or aggressive in that sense but it's safety we're talking about. Otherwise I'd probably think up of a clever way to get the keys without resorting to the first option.

That's a good idea, about offering up something for their keys in return. I'm not a violent person either, but if I were defending myself because they hit me first then I would throw a few punches just to get the keys. But maybe if they hadn't hit me first, then I would try to keep them from getting in the car and call some other people for some help or even just the cops.

Calling a taxi could probably work. Maybe the taxi driver could coax them in the taxi. And they would forget about driving in their own car and maybe even offer to pay for the taxi fair. But I know most taxis around here will take drunk people home for free. If neither of that work I think the other best thing would be to call the cops to help out.
