Well, after my bout with mental dryness a while back, I took a break and fed my pet dogs and now I'm back with a discussion. While looking at them eat, I wonder about something. You see, for lunch today, I have them each an extra beef bone and boy, did they enjoy biting and chewing at their bones. In fact, they even eat it first and ignore the rest of the food I gave them just to be able to chew the bones into pieces. I notice that they are especially eager to eat when there are bones in their food. Of course, I am aware about the dangers of sharp bones. I choose the good kind of bones by the way. Still, the question remains in my mind:
What's in bones that dogs love so much?

Dogs love bones so much. It is rich in calcium and protein. It helps them have stronger teeth. However, you should beware of the type of bones you give them. Chicken bones are a no-no as it may get stuck in their throat that may cause them to choke.

Good to have you back my friend, I wonder if the fact that dogs like bones so much it goes back to when they were wild and had to hunt for themselves, their ancestors the wolves are hunters and meat eaters and will track and kill animals and feast on their meat and bones, so maybe this is the case as to why dogs love bones so much! Or they know what's good for them!

I don't know if bones have anything special. I only think dogs prefer foods that are more... close to their ancestors way of feeding.
Have you tried to give them meat AND bones at the same time? Do you think they would leave the meat and choose the bones? Of course, if we give them rice and bones or rice and meat, they will choose the bones/meat, and leave the rice for later. But, from what I saw at my dog, she eats both meat and bones with the same pleasure. In fact, she gulps the meat first, then she gets the bone and take her time to chew it.
