You heard it right. I got invited to a JS Prom of a nearby high school and their theme this year is Fairy Tale. It is going to be a spectacular evening with all the young ladies and gentlemen donning their best for their prom. Last year, this school had a candy-land motif, the year before last they had "starry, starry night" and there was also a year when they had "white hearts." I am always amazed watching parties like this because we never had this during our prom in high school. Our school only required us to come in party or Sunday dress. It was a simple JS prom but in this school where I always am invited because the principal is my friend, they always have a lavish prom because this is a school for the moneyed or the rich and it's the parents who want this kind of prom for their kids. I wonder how you celebrated your prom?

I like the title of your post. :-) I attended our ball night when I was in high school and I remember then that I wore a gown. It was so funny that my crush invited me to be his partner that night however my father wanted his younger brother or my uncle to be my escort. :-) so I was not able to dance with my crush then because my unce was guarding me. :-)

Forgive me for being slow but what exactly is a prom? Is it a reunion? We don't have proms in our country, but some schools and colleges have reunions, I wonder if this is the same. I think you know I'd decline any offer to go to a reunion, mainly because I wouldn't want to see anyone from school again, it would only evoke bad memories of the bullying and the misery I faced when at school. But I am sure you will have a great time, sounds like fun.

Every year, schools hold a party or prom, short for "promenade' for Junior and senior high schoolers. It is a grand ball in which ladies come in their most fabulous gown and they boys in their grandest suit. I liken it to a red carpet event.

Well, I live in Italy. In my country, do not use the prom, end of the year. Although I am no longer a student since 1997, I have to say that in case we used to eat pizza with all the classmates, and nothing more. Different countries, different traditions found.

My son who is now in year 12 just asked me this the other day... I told him my high school prom was just regular ball room dancing type with all the normal activities that usually happen in such occasion like prom king & queen crowning. Each year the senior class in my son's high school would have to organize their own prom; the venue, the theme, and all that with the help of teachers in charge. He goes to a public high school, and he was just wondering if mine was any different since I went to a private high school. If anything, I said to him, mine was a lot easier to organize since there were only less than 30 students in my senior year of high school.

It's very different how they hold their JS Prom. It is so extravagant.

Haven't celebrated prom yet. Might not celebrate prom and if I do it's gonna be at a baseball stadium. If I don't find someone I'll probably go with my guy friends. My parents are poor and they expect me to make lots of money, but I don't plan on spending much.

Hi Sparta! It's a good thing you don't study in that school I mentioned. You would have been forced to attend it.

Our school didn't have a prom. But the themes you mention here sound absolutely lovely and/or really fun.

Sad, at home, sick. I never experienced my JS prom in high school and I was so excited weeks before the prom and I already paid. It's so sad specially when my classmates and friends talk about it and how other students end up together because of that party. Until now I always wonder how it is to be in js prom and be teenager again for just one night.

During my proms, we all used to have dress codes and have specific types of dinners. Our high school was a govt one so we didn't need to spend so much as much was arranged by the govt. Do you also have specific dress codes or specific kinds of dinners...

From where I come from, we only hear about Prom stories. Down here in Kenya, we see it in the movies and films! I would love to attend one someday.
