Bad time for a party

I'm currently in a predicament right now. My boss told me earlier that we were to come to his party or else we get fired. I have a part time job and I don't really need the money all that much, but I still need to save the money for my college tuition. I also have a couple of tests to deal with tomorrow. Not entirely sure how I'll be able to juggle between the two, but so far the party is not going too well. It's like that party where only the host is having fun and everyone else while acts happy, is actually preoccupied by something else.

i don't think he can pressure you to do things such as that especially if it is not work related... you can talk to him about it and tell him the real reason.. and talk to your HR about it.

so what's the big occasion or reason for the party that requires complete attendance? it's like you're still in school and treated like children, doesn't it? the problem with that atmosphere is everyone's afraid to enjoy themselves in case they make a mistake or displease the boss which carries over to the office the next day.

there are other more effective ways to diffuse the tension. i doubt anyone would be brave enough to speak up in such a setting.

I think your boss will understand if you won't attend that party, maybe you just need to tell your boss and make a little explanation. Obviously your next activities are very important other than partying. You shoud tell your boss how important your exam is and you can't make it if you're not studying for it. Goodluck, I hope you're able to make it.
