The number of age old people are on the increase.Withe advent of sophisticated medical inventions, longevity is on the upper level. In tune with the rise in the older people, old age homes have crept up in large numbers in different parts of all countries of the world. The modern youth could find or spare little time to look after their ageing parents. Most of the younger generation are quite busy without limits by any means to the aged lot so that they do not get frustrated in life.

I feel for those old people who are left in the homage without being visited by family, friends and relatives. I don't think that I would ever allow myself to send my parents under the care of others when they grow old. I mean, they gave us our lives and they nurtured us until we were able to have our life of our own. So why send them away, when it is our turn to give back the love and care that they gave us?

My mom is aged 79 years old and she will be have her 80th birthday next month. It will be a special mile stone birthday. I know my sister's mother-in-law is even older. People of my age expect to retire when we are aged 67 years old. People are living a long time due to a healthy diet, exercise and excellent medical assistance.
Many retired people sell their house and downsize to a small bungalow. I was looking for a 3 bedroom bungalow in 2010. I managed to find one in a quiet road to purchase. Around my close are some other bungalows. These are owned by retired people. Some old people live in a home for the elderly in my home country.
The modern youth don't tend to care for their aged parents due to busy lives and small homes in my home country most usually. My mom lives in a 2 bedroom bungalow.

Sukumar..part of this trend is because there is hesitation to implement population control measures. Consequently, children have little choice but to work and have working partners. The kind of climate and facilities we have, we are bound to be tired. That can lead to altercations at home. Had the families been small from two generations ago, we wouldnt have been in such a precarious situation as a nation, and our women folk could have stayed home, looking after elderly people in the house without depending upon outside help. Another reason for old age homes is the age gap between the parent and the child. My neighbor is about 65 +, his mother is merely about 18 years or so his senior. That means, my neighbor has already reached a level when he and his wife have health problems, so they cant really look after the elderly folks. Longevity is therefore not such a blessing in some cases. I hope I wont live that long and will have a dignified exit. :)

I think that we should certainly have care and concern for the eolderly in all countries. One day the young ill be those elderly. The elderly suld not bfgtten or abandoned. They are as much a part of society as anyone else. They deserve ourhelp and compassion. Growing older is something that happens to all of us eventually. I would like to think that when I am older that someone will be there to care for me too.

Hi ! I am happier if there would be more aged people in this world . Who would want their elders to die , none right ? It is so good and fulfilling to see and serve our elders. In our country elders are given much concern and care even they are subsidize by our government , they are given free hospitalization , a discount in medicines and fastfoods , discount in movie houses and fare in public transportation. Children are taught also to give important , high respect , care and loved to their elders , instilling in their minds what these old people have done on their lives when these people were still young and able also telling them that they will also reach that age .

It is a terrible thing, thinks I. My cultural value is that children look after their parents when they get old. My wife and I moved in and looked after my mum when she could no longer fend for herself
all the best, urban

oh yes, there are lots of aged people nowadays who are still fighting for survival. That's why I wish when I turn 65 I die. LOL. I don't like to be older than that...

I do understand your post very much. Todays youth don't spend time with their grandparents an they have a lot of their own issues. I also have my grandparents but i spend time with them so that they don't feel bad or ignored which will not be good for their health. I think everyone should spend time with the old aged people as they are the one through which we are here. What's your opinion...
