Hi there,
I don't know if there's any particular and more specific category for this discussion but I hope it's okay, even though this topic is not completely about the computer, but it's accessory.
Anyway, yesterday I was still able to access and explore my flash drive in my computer, but today when I connected it to my PC, the computer have recognized it and there's still an icon of the flash drive in the 'Computer'. However, when I try to open it, the window appears with nothing but the name of my flash drive, it's capacity...
the window only offers me a shortcut to my flash drive (1 Kb file) and whenever I click it, trying to open the shortcut, my PC would freeze and the window for the flash drive would close.
I attached an image of the screenshot so you can understand what I meant about the shortcut.
Does anyone knows how to fix this problem? I really don't want to format my flash drive 'coz I don't have any back ups for the files I saved in it, they're mostly movies...so I really couldn't afford to lose them. I hope someone will be able to enlighten me about this matter. Thank you so much.

Have you tried to plug it on another computer(non windows)? I think thats the only way to check if the problem is not with the hardware itself. If its show up on another computer you can just copy your files to another place and then format it.
If its really a windows virus problem then you need an environment where a virus can't survive like on unix/linux/mac OS in this case.

I haven't tried that...but I dunno if I will ever be able to... everyone at home uses WINDOWS OS, and none of my friends use unix, mac nor linux. aww...
thank you so much for responding though. I didn't know that in that 3 mentioned OS, viruses don't survive? That's awesome.

I can't view the images cause I am browsing from my mobile but I would like to suggest a virus scan. Did you try checking it with an antivirus? Sometimes flash drives are infected because we put them in different computers. I am not an expert though, and I am not sure if I can help further. I hope it will be sorted out soon without losing your files.

Oh, about the image...I don't think mylot was able to upload it together with this discussion.
As I've said in my previous response, :), I already scanned my flash drive countless times trying to fix and find those accursed viruses. But this type of virus that have infected my drive can't really be deleted by AVs. so yeah.
Thanks for responding though.

Hi there jhustinian, hope everything is okay, now? if not.. maybe you can restart your computer (before that, remove the usb flash drive first) often when you always take out the flassh drives without safely removing them in your pc, this is where usb problem starts to arise.
You can allso try to remove the short cut and just access your flash drive from the my computer page... or maybe when you plug in your flashdrive do wait for it a bit and see if there is the pop up that would show up when you plug in usb flash drives.
If this does not work, try to use the usb if other computer would be able to read your flash drive.. hope it works good luck!
