Top versus hot discussion...

So I had a few of my discussions in the top position the other day. And I grew a few inches more around my waist because of it.. But ironically, responses in top discussions are not essentially as many as you would expect. And the discussions that are declared as hot are also not ranked as per the number of responses... Personally, I would like my discussion to be on top, and yet hot...because I have a very high regard for many of my friends here...whose opinion interests me. Too high an expectation, right? lol What about you...would you prefer the discussion to be hot rather than on top?

I like my discussions to be on the top rather than hot, i mean i do value the opinions of my friends here in mylot and nowadays it is very seldom that i get more than 10 responses, and yes believe me 10 responses already makes me happy and inspired, i am just comparing it me talking my heart out to 10 people..which is a crowd actually. Have a happy mylotting!

I only want lotters to respond to my discussions and it really doesnt matter to me whether my discussion is on the Top or the Hot lists anytime. I only need interactions and discussions on my content which rarely happens these days. I mean, I do get friends and lotters responding back but then, these responses do not get turned into discussions many a times - just because I have been lazy and also a little non-interactive here.

I am so truly hoping, that seeing you so seldom here lately, just means that you are sharing your precious moments with your lovely wife!

Dear Sis I had been to Wifey's place on 26th Jan and returned a few days back(Sunday) and I am trying to get used to being me all alone again. That said, I am at the moment a little busy with my own website - I am redesigning it and I have set the deadline as 20th Feb for me. So right now, I am busy running after my designer friend for his time to give me some ideas on colors that I can use on the new look for my website.

I don't pay attention to such things. "Hot" ones are those that get a lot of action in a short period of time, I'm thinking, but unless it is a discussion on tops, I have no idea what makes a "top" discussion.

One of my friends out here, congratulated me once when my discussion was amongst the top. So I realized that is something to be coveted..lol Otherwise, I am as curious as you about why a discussion is a "top" discussion. :)

I truly hate to admit this, dear Vandy...but I really have spent anytime thinking about your question here?? I start so few discussions, that I would make it to either category would be incomprehensible. I congratulate you for being in those categories. I find time constraints, is a reason for me NOT to start discussions..as I would beat myself up with guilt, if I started a discussion and did not have time to respond...so I save myself a bit of self-respect by just responding to all the great discussions by my good friends here!

Perga did you notice that I returned to respond to your discussion? I often respond half way and start another discussion...like to share my thoughts, and know how others are thinking and feeling. I often leave my discussion halfway to respond to others discussions. And then return. One of the reasons is, if I dont do that...I might end up using same logics and same words which wont be very nice because all my friends are great and have great thoughts.

Personally, I would like to have my discussion having lots of responses so I can comment on all of them and my cents becomes dollars... Anyway, congratulation to have discussions as Top or Hot...

Thanks jenn...:) Lots of comments? I take ages to respond. ... Then also...many of the answers seem so alike that I feel I am doing it mechanically....so I actually stop responding for a while...and then return.

Actually I still don't know what is the actual difference between these two tabs. But mostly I prefer to go only on Hot discussions page. Well, we surely get more responses than normal if our discussion reach to any of this two tab. And I guess everybody would like it as they will get more chance for discussion as they will get more responses.

Ah...somebody like me...but not sure I want to be in the hot list...I mean when many people have similar views, it does become difficult to be original in replying to them all. So I am not too comfortable with more than 20 responses. :)

He he.. Yes sometimes more responses feel like uncomfortable. But as I can take my own time to response them all, no problem.

This is just a guess, as I'm not sure what the difference is between 'top' & 'hot' here, but here'e goes: Using my browser's in-page search to look for 'top' & 'hot' on a couple of FAQ-pages, I didn't get anything on 'how to make hot or -top discussions.' But I guess that 'top' discussions are part of the Discussion Rating System (being the highest-rated discussions of the recent time-period, meaning that a) a lot of people visited the discussion & b) a lot of people 'plus'-ed it!) The 'hot' I deduce (from Marina "HotForWords" Orlova's teaching that "hot"'s original sense comes to make it mean more like 'hot off the press') that the 'hot' discussions are discussions that score well with the search-engine spider ... i.e. having keywords that are rated as highly-searched in search-engines, being highly linked-to by other sites, etc. Tell me--though--how wrong am I?

I guess hot discussion is one that garners more responses very rapidly, where as top discussion is one that is different and has some quality substance in it. But this my interpretation. I am not sure whether it is valid. :)
