My cloths dryer died and I am having to hang wet cloths all over the house to finish the laundry. I had forgotten the smell, I had not hung wet cloths in the house for over 50 years. Boy have I been spoiled. Hubby has been asking for the wooden cloths hanger we had right after the first baby was born. He's seem to think it's hidden somewhere in all the stuff we save in the barn. Well I have to fix my teeth first and then we'll look into a new dryer. If this is the worse I have to deal with this year, I'll gladly do it. Good thing, the electric bill will be down.

It really can be hard to go without using a clothes dryer when you have used in for a really long time. In our home, we don't use a clothes dryer because the washing machine is in a the boiler room when the furnace is. The natural gas furnace produces a lot of heat when it is heating up the home. So we just set up a clothes rack and hang the clothes there so they can become dry in the winter months. In the Summer months we just hang the clothes outside on the clothes line. I hope you find a new clothes dryer soon.

You might have a really good point about the fact that your electric bill will be lower because of the fact that you are not able to use your clothes dryer right now. However, I don't think that this would be something that I would be happy about at all if this was something that I had to deal with. The reason that I wouldn't be happy about the situation is because of the fact that it would be impossible for me to dry my clothes by hanging them in the backyard and I really can't think of that many places inside the house that I would be able to hang up clothes to dry.

Somehow I still prefer sun dried clothes to the drier dried clothes. The smell of sun dried clothes fresh off a cloths line is simply too good to forget. We have plenty of sunlight in India so drying cloths in sun is normally no hassle. In cities, however, with the apartment blocks being the place of living, this has become a thing of past.
We are losing touch with mother nature.

I am fine even without a dryer, but not during school days! I don't want to worry about the uniform of my kids if it is going to be all dry by the time they need to wear them. And also, if it is the rainy season, I hate the smell of clothes that has not been at least air dried.

Its a nice convienence for us in the winter months. In summer we can of course go without. I wouldn't like to go without at all though. I prefer the ease of it. Its not hard though if you have an area designated over the wood stove for some clothing... if you keep up with it pretty well it shouldn't be too bad. Although I remember this only from my child hood I could be wrong, who knows!

Mum often does this, wash out clothes and hangs them in the bathroom, we don't have a washing machine or drier so we have to rely on going to the laundry or washing them by hand, it's still too cold to hang the clothes outside to dry so they are on an airer in the bathroom. When I lived alone I had to wash my clothes my hand. When I had a washer/tumble drier it used to eat the electricity, I checked the meter and the dial used to spin round when the drier was on!

We have been thinking about trying to hang all of our clothes so as to save electricity but I have to admit that the clothes dryer is a lot more convenient.

My mom never had a dryer. Summer it was clothesline, until she was unable to do it. I think we get a little spoiled. Right now I do not have a clothes line, but I would like to have one again. As you say, the savings on the electric is welcome. In the summer it will also help the house stay cooler. I like how you can find good in what some people would consider an inconvenience.

Thank goodness warm weather is coming! I love the smell of clothes hung outside to dry but you're right, it's very inconvenient when we have to hang them inside. There are much worse things than not having a dryer. You're right, we are very spoiled!
