They do that so that you will buy them. It is called product placement. If you noticed most things that they want you to buy are all eye level. And the things on sale are not. Unless they have too much of them sale items, then they put those in your face. It's all about getting you to buy something more expensive and to also make you buy more then you need. It is a money game.

sure is, they are very clever as well... at how they do that. Notice all the candies are at the cash out? so we grab them at last second before paying.....

This same thing always happens to me too. I can't just go to the store for a few things. I think that you are right, that they put the good stuff right where everyone will see them on purpose. Because they want you to spend more money. And obviously well with us it always works. Lol. They are always tempting us with things we don't need. Everytime I walk into my grocery store, they always have good stuff like right at the entrance and it is at a good price and then I'm like wow what a good price and then I grab it and add it to my cart. I'm like man yall do this on purpose, because everytime I come in here yall have something new and then I want it or I need it lol and then I spend too much money.

I think it is a woman's instinct, to get something that we think we need because the price is so good.

And of course they have their specials, reductions and buy one get one free products, even if you go with a list you always come back with much much more than you went out, unless you are strictly rigid and don't buy anything else, some things as you say are far too tempting to avoid. Yum I love strawberries too.

Hi maria!
When things are on display in a store or in a mall, we just get tempted to see those things and many a times those goodies which may not be required immediately.
These people display such things to entice us and sometimes they put a tag of 'Sale' and some tempting offers so that we just can not resist.
It happens with many of us, so do not worry about excess baggage.

yes, they sure know where to place those items so we pick them up to buy them, without thinking...

Sometimes I'll see something tempting me to buy it, but I gotta be careful with my money. Not to say that I've never strayed and gotten something unnecessary, because I am guilty there too.
I don't keep shopping lists. The store is set up for it and I always end up forgetting things if I keep a list on hand. Instead I have a meal plan in my head and I already know exactly what is needed for that.

Were you hungry when you went to the store? The reason that is the first question that I ask is because of the fact that I find when I go to the store for just a few things and I am hungry when I walk into the store, it doesn't matter if I am shopping with a list or not, I end up buying a lot more than I had planned on purchasing when I went into the store.
Of course the other problem is that you had your son with you as well. Having someone else with you when you go to the grocery store is always something that does add a lot of things that you hadn't intended to buy to your purchases.

Stores know how to display items for visual effect. They know you might only be coming in for a few essential items. Once they have your attention, you will be buying more items and spending more money in their stores. There is a method to their madness.

LOL so many of us can relate to this..unless one has a specific plan they will indulge in extras when shopping. The store reminds us of things we want but may or may not need. This is especially true if I go to the grocery store when hungry. I try to avoid doing that but there are times I can't help it...

I do this too sometimes. When I go to the grocery to pick up some things I need, sometimes I end up buying more than I need and there are times that I buy almost everything in a store and forget to get the things that I really intended to buy on that store.

I think stores really do put the most desirable things up in the front of the store when you enter or leave because they know you will probably go and purchase it from them. I think it really comes down to self control and whether or not you can control your spending when in a store. I am on a fixed income so I have to make a list of the stuff I want to buy from a store and really stick to a budget to control spending.

I bet they sit I those offices and all try and decide what to put so we get tricked into buying it. Most of that stuff is high prices as well.

Its a marketing strategy, they arrange the stuff in the store to attract more people to buy things from them. Cant help it, that happens to me a lot too when i get more than what i intend on buying especially when i go to a store that is like Walmart. think of it as a help to the economy,
