My daughter has diabetes. She is very overweight and because of her diabetes she is trying to lose weight. She doesn't seem to be able to lose much. I'm very worried because I know how serious this disease can be. She says she is watching her diet, but somehow she doesn't seem to be able to lose much. Does anyone have any advice to give?

The first that she needs to do is to cut on carbohydrates and sweets. Try searching online or ask her doctor a diet which she can follow. If she is really decided to lose those excess weight, she should follow the diet religiously. Also, she must also become active in working out. That would surely give her a healthy body in no time.

So, that leaves her in cutting down her food in take and make the right choices of food. Let's just not rush her in taking off those pounds right away. For as long as he is determined in losing weight, then that's all that matters.

Thank you for your response. She does seem to follow her diet. She doesn't live at home anymore, but I believe her. Unfortuntely, she has a job where she works overtime many days so she doesn't have the time to exercise as much as she should.
alslo, becajse she works overtime, she's usually too tired to exercise. I'm sjre it would help alot, though.

Can people with diabetes exercise? May need to do some sweating through exercise. Decrease more calories. Drink lots of water and get good rest. Make sure she is eating healthy.

Can only lose 2-3 lb a week, everything else is water weight or loss of muscle mass.

The mpst impoprtant thing to remember is to not rush anthing. If you do, your weight just comes right back again. It's important thst a diet is sdomething that diabetics have to do all of their lives.

If she stops eating white stuff and drinking soda she should lose weight. Don't eat rice, potatoes, flour, or breads. Don't eat after 7 or 8pm. Eat meals at the same time each day and eat plenty of fruits and veggies. Also drink plenty of water or lemon water. I drink at least three glasses of lemon water each day and I also put lemon in my tea. It has helped me to maintain my weight. I hope this helps her. Good luck!

Yes take one day at a time. She will not lose weight overnight. Just tell her to stick to her diet, which should be no sweets(there are plenty of things they have out there now that are sugar free)& just eat smaller portions. Of course there is the fact that she needs to exercise as well. I started out walking a mile or two about 3 times a week & I had lost ten pounds. It can be done, but it doesn't happen over night.

My mother has diabetes too. It runs in the family. She is very strict in her diet and she drinks "ampalaya tea." Ampalaya is a bitter gourd. They say it's good for those who have diabetes. However, when her sugar is low she would feel dizzy so she eats sweets too but moderately. There is a certain diet for those who have diabetes. She may consult her doctor about this. Strict diet is a must have too.
