Some People Shy Away from Eating

I just don't know the reasons why some people shy away from eating. I've known people who are so thin and almost collapsed at times because they won't eat. Eventhough they have work and there is food on the table they would not eat until they are really hungry. The ressult they have sickness and they are unhealthy. I've noticed too that they become selfish with other people in regards to foods. They don't want other people to eat too. It is written, " that one should enjoy his food, be merry and drink." I really wonder why they have this kind of principle. Are they mentally sick or some psychological explanation for this or are they just plain stingy and selfish people?

I work a lot of hours in restaurants and I am a cook at two different jobs. Sometimes being around so much food that kind of grosses me out makes me not really feel like eating or it doesn't make a lot of food sound very appetizing. Also sometimes from drinking city water while I'm working at my jobs makes my stomach upset. Another reason I end up shying away from eating is that there isn't always food available that I know is healthy for me. Often times I would rather just not eat than eat food that is really bad for you. I know that I am too skinny for my height and I'm trying to cook up good food more often so then I will have left overs when I get done working. I'm just trying to make better food available for myself that I can heat up quickly when I'm tired and don't feel like making anything.

It is just a different case these kind of people who have this behavior is depriving themselves to eat as well other people. In your case you are shying away maybe because you don't like the food or probably don't have appetite. Probably in their case there are psychological reasons and coincide with selfishness too. And I find it a weird behavior in their case.

When I was young I can manage not to eat too much but not to the point of depriving myself any food. But i was a teen back then and so self conscious that I so always eat healthy foods only with healthy amount of foods. I don't know about people who hardly eat as i have not known anyone personally who does that to themselves.

On a personal reason, I know I am too self conscious to go into a restaurant, or cafe and eat alone, I'd rather go in buy something and find a nice park or somewhere quiet where I can eat alone and in peace. I also find some people have unhygienic and nasty habits when they eat, I am easily put off my food, and seeing people eat with their mouths open, spit food, or what they eat makes me shy away from eating in public. I think my problem is more anxiety than any eating disorder that could be described by your discussion.

hey, what can you say? they are just plain gluttonous and greedy. there are people who will literally fight you over food, too. on the other hand, i have a pretty reasonable appetite. i mostly eat when i am hungry. occasionally, i snack. so, it just depends on the person.

That is a different case. I eat when I'm hungry. If there is food then eat however if there is no food then do not eat. That is my principle. However, I'm curios with people who are even hungry and do not eat and they are unhealthy too. And the worst thing is that they become selfish in regards to foods. I really don't like this kind of principle. I think they are sick or just plain selfish people.

Are you referring to Anorexia nervosa perhaps? It is an eating disorder. You may see that person as thin, but they see fat. Sometimes the cause may be verbal abuse by parents or peers in their early childhood or well, there are numerous reasons behind it. I've never heard of an anorexic person keeping others from eating though.

Thanks for your response. I think it is somewhat related too because they deprived themselves of eating however they have this attitude of not wanting other people to eat too. When they see someone eating they don't like it. I think it's kind of selfish too. I don't know if this is some sort of principle or just plain stingyness or selfishness. I think it's too bad.

Apparently there are also people who can't stand to see or hear other people eat. http://www.ofear.com/t-phobia-of-hearing-watching-people-eat-drink ( not a referral link ). If that's what the persons issue is though I'd say its both a psychological and selfish reason. They can just leave the room and let everyone eat in peace.

Probably anorexic too because I've heard that one of them is dislike by her mother. So somehow there is psychological reasons too.

I also don't understand it and yet they complain that they have gas problems. However, when it comes to sugary food they can eat it all day without any complain at all. I think that they are not willing to do any effort to help themselves. If you want something you must try to do it if it is for the best for you.

I don't understand why some people shy away from food. I think there must be some sort of psychological explanation. It must be miserable to be unhealthy, weak and ill very often. It is best to have a body mass index of between 18 and 25. These very thin people are the opposite to an overweight person that desperately needs to lose weight. I eat a vegan diet and in Colombia I got low on food supplies. I ended up fainting. I got some bananas to eat and then felt a lot better. I have a normal body mass index. I am not thin or overweight. I am a fussy eater that only eats vegan food.

People who do this are obviously have some serious health and psychological issues. And they should be guarded real well. If we happen to notice a close friend or family who acts this way, we should bring them to a therapist so they could be treated well for their unusual behavior towards food.
