The mountain is a crime scene.

Wow, after being sick in bed for a few days I went out for a ride in the sun in my golf cart, today. It was cool but bright & sunny. I took a camera and was taking pictures of snow on the nearby Mountain.. Suddenly a neighbor ran out to tell us we should go home and turn on the TV. Our mountain was shut down with no traffic allowed up and everyone searched at gunpoint on the way down. They were hunting a man with dogs and SWAT teams and helicopters. Somebody shot at them and people were hurt and one offices died, but after hours of standoff, the news reported they didn't know for sure if the accused was who they reported him to be nor were they sure he was in the building they apparently torched. Might have been. Now it is dark out. I felt bad for everyone involved, but the truth is we still do not know what happened up there. Some moms and dads took their kids up to play in the snow and spent hours waiting to get off the isolated country road and home. Probably this will be a day they remember. Have you ever had a trip or outing ruined because the road was closed? Was it scary?

Wow, that is a little too close if you ask me. I have had to turn back when the road was blocked due to a mud slide or something like that. There was one time they had a road closed but they wouldn't tell us why and we never heard anything on the news.

It is always more disconcerting when reasons are unclear.

That was Christopher Dorner and they've been searching for him for a week. He had already killed three people and today he killed a fourth. It's been big news around here because right after he killed his first two victims, he was down here in San Diego trying to steal a boat and visiting a local navy base. He wrote a long manifesto about how he was mistreated while he worked for the LAPD. His truck broke down in Big Bear a few days ago. They thought he left the area and was in Mexico. But, I guess not.

Well, apparently he has met an untimely end and will not hurt any more people.

No, nothing exciting like that, but we sure have been hearing about all the problems there in the San Bernardino. Now, one night a friend and I were parked by the edge of a greenbelt talking and the police drove up and told us there was a man who had just robbed a store in the area and we might want to go some place less isolated to continue our talking... we took his advice. Austin is generally pretty safe, but some parts are less safe than others.

Scary scary scary... if this ever happens... i hope that my kid are not with me... i would rather suffer alone than see my kids suffering with me not knowing if we will even make it out alive... i just can't imagine how i would handle that sort of situation... I am glad that you are okay and was not caught up in that scary situation... stay safe...

Thank you! We were about 60 miles away and only saw what was on the news. We had talked about maybe driving up that way to look at the snow, but decided it was too cold up there. Glad we stayed where we were at!
