then why do you have to pay to eat their. i think workers should be able to eat at least one meal free at the restaurant. it's only fair. they work their around food all day long. they are supposed to be able to know the menu. what better why to know the menu, by eating it and knowing what it's like. that way you can best sell it to your customers. what do you say?

Yes of course, if you are working in a restaurant or any food shop or fastfood. I think it is included as employee benefits.. The employer should allow this, as part of the the employee benefits..

It's sad to know about this, but sometimes there are instances like these, where the employer does not give all the necessary benefits needed by the employees..

I do think so, too. I mean , at least the company should provide them a descent meal while their on the job. Well, small incentives like these could really help workers perform well in their jobs.

When I worked in a fastfood during college days, we do have free meal in day. It used to be a chicken meal with softdrink. I think a free meal in a day should be given to an employee of a restaurant or fastfood. Company should be considerate about it.

okay. that's seem reasonable. even though they picked the cheapest thing on the menu for you, it is still an incentive.

Thanks for sharing your thought. I feel that if a worker is provided with one meal free of cost, surely it can be considered as a per of staff welfare & employees would also appreciate the same. I know about a few big hotels where employees are served food regularly but the same is no way associated with what is available at buffet / a la-cart menu.

that is reasonable, i am not saying that you have to feed me all day long. just as long as i could get one meal. lol.

I would have thought that was part of the salary having their meal provided, I mean it's no skin off the companies nose is it and not much to ask, it also shows a caring employment and will help morale. I think some fast food restaurants do provide a meal, but it's dependent on the company. What gripes me is that the food they waste, and yet they won't donate it to the homeless and hungry because if a person eats the food and gets sick they can sue the company, crazy I call that.

As far as I know, waiters and waitresses working in a restaurant usually enjoys a free meal at least. So are our school canteen workers.

i agree with you, by knowing how the food taste, you can recommend to your customer, and i think that will make you an effective worker, being more familiar in what you are selling

When I worked at a restraunt, we could order food for a discounted price. At the end of a shift there was often left over food and we were allowed to take that home for free.

It depends on the establishment. If you work at Starbucks, they expect you to try all the coffees and learn how to make them. I believe you also get a lb of ground coffee or beans per week and it's free, at least that's what I had heard from people who work there. When I worked at McDonalds, I often got free meals because I was usually willing to work extra shifts or come in whenever someone else called in or didn't show up. If I had to pay for my food it was about 50% the cost of what a customer would see, so if a cheeseburger was 50 cents and a fry was 80, my cheeseburger was 25 cents and my fry was 40. I never worked at a family or sit down restaurant but my ex was a GM at one, so when I went there, I never had to pay for my food. However, I usually tipped my server about $6-7 regardless of what I ordered, whether it was just a Coke or a meal plus. The servers were always really good to me because they probably worried if they screwed the boss's wife, they'd get in trouble. I tipped for their service, never ever got bad service there, and the food was always good because he cooked it. I think the employees were able to get discounted meals there, I never really asked about that. Some of them were employees there for years.

We used to get free food all the time working at Arbys because they made us keep putting together sandwiches so that the bins would stay stocked. This meant throwing away a lot of food too, but the managers allowed us to take some. They gave us employee discount also.

When I used to work at the restaurant, all of us ate there before it's open for dinner time at 5pm. I guess the employer did not want us to serve customers with empty stomach. But if it's not our shift, and we went to the resturant as customers, then we certainly had to pay when we ordered food.

I say the food costs the business money and therefore it makes no sense to offer free meals to employees. If they DO offer it, it will simply wind up either reducing one's pay or charging customers more to make up the difference. Restaurant margins are historically EXTREMELY low. Restaurants have to also deal with a TON of theft by employees.

I think that all cooks should definitely be able to get the food that they sell at their restaurant for free. I work at two different restaurants a Mexican casual dining restaurant and a brewery and steakhouse. I get a pretty good amount of meals from the Mexican restaurant for free but I don't get the whole menu for free. Of course the best things that you can get aren't on the free menu which is pretty stupid. At the steakhouse I think I only get like thirty percent off food and their food their is ridiculously expensive. I think that all cooks there should get at least one free meal. That is how it is at the Mexican restaurant all non-tipped employees are entitled to a free meal after each shift. I think though that as a cook I should be able to cook myself one meal and I should be able to make whatever I want rather than having to order whatever happens to be on the menu.
