What on earth does it really mean? Men are told to "be a man" while women are told "not to forget that they are women." I am woman and has been told so on one or two occasion. Left me speechless. Have you ever been told to "be a man" or "not to forget that you are a woman?" How would you respond?

As a young boy I was taught that boys don't cry, and as a man he shouldn't show his weaknesses and should certainly not cry, So if being a man is not crying, I'd rather not be a man, anything but. I want to be in touch with my feelings, I want to be able to cry without it being seen as unmanly or non-macho. Why kind men have sensitive sides, why can't men be feminine? I actually think saying to someone be a man is quite insulting and quite patronizing to be honest.

You are right! That's exactly what I feel too, and I also feel that men and women should just be allowed to be human.

When I was a girl there used to be a lot more of that where I live. Now this is changing and it is more important to be a good person than to have certain qualities that used to be asociated with a certain gender.
