People are invited to leave their job

Front page news in my local area's newspaper is 1700 hospital staff get asked which of them wish to resign. I don't imagine many of the doctors or nursing staff will. Professional adults tend to have a house with a mortgage to pay. They probably wish to keep on working there until they reach 67 years old when they can get a pension. There is lots of unemployment in my home country. The National Health Scheme are trying to spend less money. I imagine there will be many staff made redundant.
What do you think?
How is the unemployment situation in your home country?
Do people stay in their same job or go working elsewhere to further their career typically?

It angers me my friend when they start cutting back on hospital staff, even worse close them down, with the population exploding as it is, we are going need more doctors, nurses and hospital beds, not less, and yet the government seems fit to close them down to save money? It's alright for them, they have private care, but for the ordinary people we have the meagre services of the NHS which is dwindling daily. Maybe if the government stop wasting money on fat cats, bailing banks out and bombing and killing people they wouldn't have to make so many people unemployed!

Thanks for your excellent response my friend. Nobody likes the hospital care but if they need it then it is essential for them. If the staff left feel overworked it is not going to make a successful National Health Scheme. The only people seen straight away and ladies in labor. Waiting times for necessary operations are going to get longer with less staff.
Yes, the government need to stop wasting money. Banks need to stand on their own feet. They need to reduce the number of unemployed people. The National Health Scheme needs its staff.

Unemployment is pretty bad here. No loyalty on either side. People job hop, and companies lay off and outsource.

Although there is also a high unemployment rate around here, I'm lucky enough that I am in a 'niche' career where there's always a need for my skill-set somewhere. I try not to stay in one job for too long. I always try and look for better opportunities for my career and my family.
Thankfully, I've never been asked to leave a job.
