Used to be found here in the Philippines, specifically in Consuelo Village, in the town of Bunawan, province of Agusan del Sur, is Lolong (the name of the 20.4 foot crocodile), known as the largest reptile. This reptile was captured was captured last September 03, 2011 at the marshes of Agusan and was said to have eaten several fishermen in the area. To think they should have learned their lesson that animals who have lived many years in the wild will very soon die in captivity because of sudden change in environment! Given the fact that the said crocodile have alreaday caused harm to several people, it should have been placed in a reservation area where the environment is still cultured by nature, and not a cage designed to look like the marshes. I don't believe in animals being caged and for some, they reason that they are only thinking about the safety of the animal. Let us take birds in cages for example. What is the point of owning a bird and placing them in cages when you will really never appreciate its beauty. Why? Placing birds in bird cages is like clipping their wings and stealing from them their natural instinct.... to fly! So I think animals should not be caged but be placed in reservations!

What a sad story. I, too, am against the caging of animals. I believe as you do that reservations are the best place for them if they cannot live safely in the wild. I had read of that crocodile more than a year ago and saw a picture of him. What a truly amazing creature he was! And you are right about the birds, too. It's very sad to think of what's happening to the animals on this planet at the hands of mankind. very sad, indeed.

Have you seen Planet of the Apes? Well, that is what animals probably feel in captivity... being treated poorly... although some are not but the fact that they are still in captivity is real! I think the best thing for us humans to do is to let nature runs its course freely. As for that crocodile, Lolong, they are saying that its probably on what he ate that made him sick. I don't think so. We humans think that we know better. Do you agree that it will stress any crocodile in captivity, especially the ones being shown to the public because of one simple thing... they see the tourist viewing them as their food... just a few feet away... and they cannot reach it or even try to reach it... just imagine!

awwww very sad to read this... although reptiles creep me out, this animal caging is harsh. such a powerful and strong creature passed away because of captivity is heart breaking.
even I have pets and they have full right of roaming free without any leash or cage.

Well, most people don't think like you do, For some, they feel that they are keeping their pets safe by caging them for if freed, those animals will probably be considered as games or hunted. But if only we let nature runs its course, there is a possibility of seeing something new. Do you know that birds are the number 1 tree planter in the world? They are the ones responsible for spreading the seeds of so many kinds of trees. But now, well, everyone knows the deal... human are now the number 1 tree planter.... because we are also on top of tree cutters!
