Imagine it you had never switched on your television, you might describe what the outside of it looked like but would have no idea, except what you had been told of what it was like for those that watched it and until you watched it, or some similar device you could not possibly appreciate it

This is just my opinion, but I think he was saying that people are addicted to their religion to the point of abandoning reason.
