Since I cannot afford tv anymore, I get to read everything...
He made a few comments on new gun regulations. and two just stuck out like a sore thumb...He said that he knew that a law banning assault weapons and automatics was not going to really work...He said that there would have to be "Mandatory gun buyback programs". Interesting. That is just another form of confiscation...Mandatory is not really a request with a nice please after it.
He also said that mandatory universal background checks would not work either...It would be necessary to invoke a required National gun registration...Once again it is not a request with a polite please even implied...
Congress is not going to go for this...I imagine that he is just preparing us for the executive order that he will be implementing shortly...I really wonder what he is going to do about the states that are and have already passed laws saying that they will not conform...

For me personally, I've been finding it harder and harder to take politicians seriously. And this isn't just Obama by any means. When I heard Romney's speeches a few months ago, one from John Cryner, Pelosi, Reid, etc -- I'm just to the point now where I feel it's never from the heart.
It's from a speechwriter. And this speechwriter receives direction from the campaign. And the campaign is finding which words and phrases work the best amongst people. And that just means they're marketing; they're looking for which words will have the most effect on the public in order to sell a product. And that is the antithesis of what I expect from a politician, especially one who doesn't have to run for reelection now. Now there's nothing stopping him from speaking from his heart and being honest, yet it's still just a sham.
I've since probably heard about all of the SOTU, broken down in YT clips and news stories. I come away feeling like I can't be angry about anything he's said, nor can I be worried or happy or evoke any other emotion other than cynical blandness.
