Unfortunately, all those fancy product that claim to get rid of stretch marks do not work. What they will do is keep your skin soft and moisturized so that your skin doesn't itch as much as it stretches.
Your stretch marks will gradually become much less noticeable months after you give birth but will never go away as they are similar to scars. However, you can see a dermatologist to discuss treatment. Here are a few options:
1. tretinoin cream (commonly known by the trade name Retin-A)
2. laser therapy
Your health insurance plan will not cover "cosmetic" procedures so you'll probably want to find out what this will cost.

I read somewhere that the over the counter scar treatment can work on strech marks. How much truth is in that?

It will help to fade them faster but will not make them go away. Even scars do not go away without dermatologic intervention and, even then most times, it just makes them far less noticeable. While we would all love to have them disappear, since we can't, wear them proudly! They are a small price to pay for your ability to have children. Sorry, I am an optimist and tend to look at the positive side of things. :)

Wish I could help, I still have mine, but I guess first I should be more worried about finishing getting rid of the baby weight! That is tough to get rid of!

Well, this has not taken away the stretch marks but I have seena huge difference in mine since using this... It's the Mary Kay visibly Fit lotion. Nice lite scent and doesn't leave you greasy either. I really liked what I saw from it. Good luck!
