Religion and its impromptu meaning...

Be absolutely honest, can you define or give an impromptu meaning of RELIGION without really looking from a dictionary/websites or to anybody's response from this discussion. Want to try?

Hi Mangtony and welcome to my lot.Religion has no meaning without Christ! I mean if you love the LORD Jesus Christ then religion shouldn't be what your looking for you should be looking for what would please God. And if you do what is right by The LORD Jesus Christ then your life should be a good life. We all have our problems that is for sure but it is only ways of testing our faith in Christ. To me Religion means to love The LORD Jesus without thinking of what others think. Just have the Faith that The LORD Jesus is the only one to follow. Don't know if that is any help but this man can lead you in the right direction. http://www.shepherdschapel.com/index.htm

Hi Mangtony. Your welcome the site is a real man that loves the LORD and can teach HIS word like it was supposed to be taught by all people. Go listen to him you won't regret it, I have been listening to him since 05 and have learned so much more then I was ever taught. God wants us to ask questions if we really want to know. Good luck and God bless

You know free_man my friend, I don't take anything for granted. You have endorsed a site, so I look and search. In the same way that that I look for every biblical verse that has been given for reference on a given discussion. Of course, the heart of every church/congregation lies in their "Statement of Beliefs". From here, you can already know if what they preaches is biblical or not.

Their are many different religions. So i guess that you could define it as a group of peoples that have the same beliefs.

I consider myself a born again christian. I do not belong to any one church.

Hi dlr297/Hopefull90, greetings. Personally, I would attribute that to a "church". But then, a church can not be separated from religion. In the same way that you cannot have relationship without religion and a church. Just my thoughts.

It is a set of beliefs in a G-d or G-ddess. It is a set of rules that show you how to worship this G-d or G-ddees.

Yes. Each religon has its own commandments.

Can it be said that rules may also mean laws or commandments? Thanks for sharing sarahtruthbeth22, and warmth greetings.

Our religion should be reflected in our way of life.

Very true bellis716, religion by actions and not by words alone. If I may cite James 1:27,"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world". God bless.

Religion is all about study and learn, some we get them as a habit that we have seen from our parents and our parents from their parents.. some we get them by study and thinking in that way. sorry if I did not understand what did you mean excatly.

I believe the discussion presented is plain and simple. It is about the meaning or definition of Religion according to an establish methodology, say a dictionary. But others choose to give their own personal understanding of the term. Just the same, you have given such a fascinating comment. Warm Greetings to you...

I'm not sure but I believe it means something like, to be rebound, or to be bound again.

WE are all Spiritual beings in our true natures. Deep down we all know God and that God exists whether we care to admit it or not. Religion is mankind's attempt to understand God. Some people work hard at discovery while others are content to merely follow and believe. Believing takes much less work and lots of people are making their lives about themselves so why go further?

I think your religion is your beliefs about morals and the paranormal. These are linked because it's really hard to come up with morals without a God or something dictating them and if there is no God or afterlife, why bother keeping morals (particularly if they get inconvenient)? This definition fits everything people usually think of as religions: Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism etc. It doesn't include being fanatical about sports. It does includes atheism (because saying that there is no God, and usually no paranormal realm, is a statement about the paranormal and by extension, there can be no clear moral laws) and agnosticism (because saying that you don't know about the paranormal is still a belief about it - by extension you either don't consider it important enough to find out about or believe that it's impossible to find out about it and also you can not be certain about morality). This means that atheists shouldn't be able to say it's OK to have their beliefs taught in schools because they aren't a religion. Everybody has a religion, just some people only have a vague one.

Religion came from the word religare and the meaning was to relink the human being with God. Today i think it means any system of beliefs someone has.
18 Feb 13
Hi iuliuxd, greetings. It can only mean that a definition in the past may not always be same in the future. Thanks for sharing.

I'll give it a go. The belief in a higher being or beings or supernatural power which has general guidelines on how one's life should be led. Obviously a more laymen definition but I think that should be decently close.

Hi jdawg011, greetings. I believe it is. Thanks a lot.
