is there a way to bake a cake w/o oven?..or microwave. we have a family dinner party and my oven's broken... i was asked to bake cookies. budget so tight, i can't have my oven repaired and i won't buy cookies from the bakeshop... some of it are 'substandards'..so you can't really rely in its taste even if it looks delicious.. any help?

We don't have a baking oven, but my mom bakes by using an oven toaster and a microwave. It's quite a tedious job I think...she would alternately use the oven toaster then the microwave. She even steams some dough at times.

Yeah..it eats up quite a lot...but she only do that when she thinks that's the inside part of the cake or whatever she's cooking isn't cooked yet after the oven toaster. But she uses the latter more frequently...she would turn it off and turn it on again at times to avoid the dough to burn...something like that...

You can bake cookies in an electric skillet if you have one. Put the pan on a rack or another pan to hold it off the hot surface. You could make no bake cookies, too. There are several kinds. Here is a site that has some listed: http://busycooks.about.com/od/dessertrecipes/tp/nobakecookybars.htm (NOT a referral link).

Well, there are always the "no-bake cookies". They are amazing. Cake? I don't know of any that does not require baking. I would either borrow a friends oven, cheat & buy one or just tell the family how it is and offer to bring something hat does not require an oven. They are family so surely thay will understand, right?

My grandmother taught me o bake before I reached my teenage years. It was something that I enjoyed very much and I still do. Baking brings a sense of comfort and can help to relieve the stress of the day.

i agree!..and what's nice about baking is that if you know how to bake you won't buy in bakeshop or pastry shops anymore..you can be very creative with your own cake and do whatever you wanna do with it w/o costing you too much!

Hi there! I have no problems when it comes to making cakes or even cookies as I only make no-bake treats and they are so easy to prepare! Since we don't have an oven yet at home, these no bake cakes are really a treat! You can try those recipes. If you like, you can check out my blog in my profile page here for some recipes that you can make for your family.

I think there are also recipes for cookies that you don't bake, just put them in the refrigerator. I've never tried it, but it should work.

Having no answer to this, I will stand afar and watch as suggestions stream in. I guess this is the best I can do for now because one day I will be in your situation and a lesson I'm learning today will be of much help...

Yes I bake but I use oven. I haven't tried it in microwave. There are some cookies that are affordable just look for it in some bakeshops or in grocery store.
