Now if you had replaced the words 'normal priest' with 'normal believer' we might have agreed.

Since he quit it yes i believe it is just a job.Being a priest is a job that requires high qualification, i don`t think that being a pope gives you access to more grace than you get when you are a normal priest, or the Holy Spirit will come faster to Vatican than it comes to a church from a small village. And when the priest feels he can`t teach others anymore from different reasons then stepping back is a good idea.

But he will not be restarting his role after lent.
Not really a good example

Well, many will give up vices during lent, that would be better given up permanently so I think it is a good example

That's what I am thinking. If what is given up during lent is good for us then it probably should be given up permanently.

So am I to understand that being the leader of the Catholic Church is a vice?

The pope resigned and whoever will be voted to replace him will take such huge task for leading the million of Catholics around the world.
As a Roman Catholic, we really do respect our religious leaders and look upon them to lead an exemplary life. I pray that the next Pope will be more like Pope John Paul.

Do you think he has started a trend? With all that scandal within the church going on now, it would be a very difficult task for anyone to undertake. I hope some good can come out of all this in the end.
Any thoughts as to who the next Pope will be? I reckon it'd be really good to see some of those African contenders get up there. The problem is that "coming a close second" somehow doesn't seem to count for anything.

Yes, indeed Africans have a passion and joy in Christianity that seems to have been lost in the West
