Writing in the Morning

There are times that I enjoy writing in the morning. Writing before the sun breaks the horizon can give you time to sneak in a blog post or two before going to work in the morning. In addition, many writers who live with other people find their homes are quieter before sunrise, and they can better gather their thoughts. Writing at sunrise is a magical time. The incredible beauty of the sun making its way up into the sky is most inspiring to writers. It makes it easy to knock out a haiku or cinquain poem before heading off into the hustle and bustle. Some writers need a bit of coffee before they can get started, but still find that they are most productive in the morning time. 10 a.m. is a great time to write, with the children off to school, other adults off to work and the writer in a quiet, settled home. Whether it's sunny or rainy, writers can find this a conducive time to do interviews via phone or web, and it's easier to catch most people on their morning coffee breaks. 11 a.m. is good for sneaking in a chapter in your latest novel and still have time for lunch. Morning sessions offer many options for writers to practice their craft.

Certainly in my late teens and early twenties when I was writing a lot of novels I would be up till 2 or even 3am in the morning writing, that is where most of my creativity came from, when it was lovely and quiet and everyone else was in bed. However the other side of the morning 7am-11am I am at my worst and don't have little to no creativity. I guess it differs with all of us at what time we are at our peak.

Hey wolfs! It seems entirely possible that writing biorhythms could change with one's age, fueling writing in the morning peaks or otherwise.

My motivation is the quiteness between 1:30am and 3:30am, although it does vary at times. Since I don't work I can blog any time but I prefere those hours. I am extremely tired but for some reason the words flow very easily.
I am also writi g a book but I just can't get myself into it lately.

Heya Scoopzz, glad to hear there's another writer who tries to hit it in the morning. I just watched the author of Eat Pray Love, Elizabeth Gilbert's TED talk on Your Creative Genius. She talked about how it comes and goes at different hours, even morning, when we're not quite wide awake yet. I'm also having difficulty getting back into my book in progress. Maybe a little more writing in the morning will bring my muse out to play on that project again.

Morning is the best time for me to be writing. Or at least my most prolific. I try to get up at least a halk an hour b4 my kids and thats when i seem to be filled with wonderful ideas. I got them all down and those are basically the beginnings of writings that I continue to work on. Of course, the ones before my first cup of coffee are normally too confusing to make sense of. But usually each day, there's 2 or 3 jottings that could be turned into something good.

Welcome, imsilver. Writing in the mornings, even just jotted thoughts before and after coffee, is a greast way to develop a bank of ideas to work from later in the day. It's great that you've discovered how best to use this technique for yourself.
