In Cape Town South Africa, a certain number of Young Men decided to follow a trend. A very disturbing one. This Fashion trend seemed like a part of their culture for almost 60 years. not everyone follow it for sure but there are group of men who intentionally have their front teeth removed. The reason for removing their teeth? so they can space to have golden dentures. source: http://www.odditycentral.com/news/a-gap-in-style-front-teeth-removal-is-trendy-among-south-african-youth.html wearing dentures is the last thing I want to do in my life. I am happy that I have healthy teeth, so I find it bizarre people will remove their healthy teeth so they can have dentures. If this became a trend in your country would you follow it? If your teenage son begged you that he wants his front teeth removed so he can wear gold dentures, would you let him?

No way, if my teeth are healthy I am satisfied with them. Dentures are only good if you have bad teeth you can't use.

I am also disgusted with dentures,If the time I will lose teeth will come, I rather have root canal and veneers.

its a bloody surgery but its worth it. Basically fake teeth will be drilled in the toothless gums. Usually the teeth is made of porcelain, Ivory or whatever material it is. Its like dentures but its permanent. Celebs intentionally have their teeth removed to be replaced by veneers.

I have not planned that far ahead. I'm not even sure what root canals and veneers are like.

I live in South Africa and I have never ever heard of what you're talking about before. Yeah people here have been getting grillz or their teeth gold plated but I have never heard of them removing their front teeth to get gold dentures that's just stupid. Even for us South Africans removing your front teeth is a bit too extreme and it will not get you any points with the girls/ladies. Another thing, all of those people shown on that article are of mixed race. Anyway what would I know I live in another state/province in South Africa and this country is made up of different races after all.

I live in South Africa and I can vouch that the removal of teeth in certain areas and by certain cultural groups is true, it is a long standing fashion trend especially seen among the people residing in Cape Town. Youngsters remove their front teeth, causing what is known as a Passion Gap... and may eventually replace them with fake diamonds or gold teeth.Sometimes they opt to simply walk around with a gappy mouth for the rest of their lives...perhaps they couldnt afford the gold and glitter?? anyway, it is perfectly acceptable among their peers, it seems... but not everyone does it. There are many diverse groups, cultures, beliefs and religions here, just like most other countries :)

Its a diverse country, just like the United States, I think this is a small group of people, their trend is not mainstream, most likely they were hipsters or hippies rebelling againts society.

I never want to follow this fashion trend. Firstly, it hurts. Secondly, natrual teetch is more valuable than the gold one. The trend is too cruel.

I would never let my kid have dentures even if they are made of diamonds. Nothing beats a complete set of healthy teeth. My grandparents have dentures now and I know how difficult it is for them to eat certain foods and even speak at times once they started wearing dentures. If my kid would want gold accessories, well I can just have her fashioned with gold earrings or bracelets or necklaces.

How about piercings or tattoos, are you open minded about that?

My ears are pierced, so yes I am open to that. And my husband's got lots of tattoo. Once in a while I will also get a henna tattoo. So I think I am pretty open minded to self expression that way. I draw the line of course when the self-expression borders on bodily mutilation, like scarring or branding.

3 years ago, eyeball tattoing becomes a trend.... the thought of it scares the heck out of me. I have tattoos and pierciings but I will never do that for my eyes
