Any strange habits?

I am sure almost everyone has a strange habit or two.
I for one have one very strange habit that may be a little disgusting to some people, but researching on the net; apparently a lot of people do it so it may not be so strange. Then I have another that is just plan weird to other people.
The first one I have been doing since I was small and they would come out in my diaper. I somehow have an oral fixation with rubber bands, if I can get my hands on them then its open season to chew on them (except if they have been on the floor or an unsanitary surface, I'm picky like that). Its mainly the smell of the rubber that intrigues me and then the taste isn't bad at all. From what I have read; the reason I do this is due to my anemia and I have a slight bout of pica.
The second strange habit I have was actually started by my great grandmother. Usually people will like something sweet for a late night snack, but not me, I will get a big cup of ice to chew on. This is also another form of pica, ice isn't exactly nutritional. Although I can use the ice to keep from grinding my teeth.
So who else has a strange habit; I'm sure no one will probably admit to having one as strange as the rubber band one but they will all be fun to read.

Yes that is super strange... but I think I am more strange and weird and sometimes they call me looney... because they always saw me talking to myself... and sometimes I talk loud (unconsciously)to the characters that plays in my head... I love day dreaming and run stories in my head that is why... and when something does not good happening I will automatically do some strange reaction that people find it weird.
You think I am a looney... but I also saw a lot people does that... but in my case in the group of people that I am with I am the only one who does that. :(
Have a great day!

It is not uncommon to talk to yourself or run stories in your head; I do that too. I talk in my sleep if I am having a very vivid dream or something of that nature. Yours isn't really all that strange because a lot of people do it.

I think Luisa, you are not alone indeed in talking to yourself. I also do that sometimes, when i am alone or nobody can see or hear me.
I do it to give myself confidence or to entertain or console myself.

As a teenager, I used to get brand new rubber bands and hold them tight between my fingers and while I ran my teeth on it. I grew up with anemia but no idea if that had anything to do with it. If I start to cut paper, I cut them into strips and then into tiny pieces creating confetti. I can do this for hours. I realized later on that it was a repetitive motion that pacified depression and anxiety.

Lack of iron is the main link to anemia. If I eat peanuts or peanut butter, my body stabilizes and I get rejuvenated with energy. I think the secondary one is protein because if I eat meat that, also, gives me a boost.

chewing on rubber bands isn't linked to causing anemia but from what I have read you will chew on them if you have a mineral deficiency. Which in the case of anemia its Iron and maybe another type of mineral; I'm not sure.

I have an oral fixation too which mostly involves biting. Fortunately this means objects and not people. Actually it becomes a very strong urge that I have to fight at time, I've got pretty good control of it, but I do wonder what is the cause in the first place.

Science says it happens when you don't get enough of something as a child. So you then develop this oral fixation and it doesn't necessarily have to be the thing you were deprived of.

When I have 'fat-guy hiccups' (either a little burp or a gasp or ... just hiccups), I've picked up the habit of giving out a high-pitched "booo!" (like Will Sasso on MAD tv doing his President Bill Clinton impression).

Makes me think of my mom when she yawns. She goes into opera.

My weirdest habit has to be my scalp picking ...I can sit for hours and rake through my hair, fingernails against my scalp, and if I find anything that feels irregular I carve away - usually it's just picking at dandruff but I've picked to the point where I've started to bleed on occasion. I've actually done a bit of searching on it before and it's linked to anxiety disorders and OCD - and it's apparently a pretty common thing. I recall developing it back when I was about 13 out of boredom in my science class ...
It's a pretty bad habit. Balding issues can happen and I rather like my full head of hair.

I think being strange is subjective. What's strange for others might be a common thing for some, and vice versa. It is fun to know that we think we are doing strange things only to find out that a handful of "normal" folks are also into that sort of thing.
On to the topic, I think one of the strangest things that I do is my fascination to pop bubble wraps, lol! Whenever a package came, I am more interested on whether it comes with bubble wraps other than what the package contains. Also, I like sniffing white board markers and nail polish. At first, I thought I am getting intoxicated. But I am glad to know that the ones we use here at home are toxic free.

Popping bubble wrap is so fun; I would love to pop it between my fingers when I was little, its still fun to me now but packages usually comes with those air pouches now so I don't get as much bubble wrap. I used to sniff markers when I was little; since I am straightedge that was a way of getting a little high; but that's something I have gotten over and don't do much anymore.

I really do not have any strange habit. But I do recall my uncle, older brother of my mom and my grandpa has this crazy habit of pouring water on their toes any hour of the day. I do not know what they get from it but I have noticed them do that since I was small. And my mom's younger brother would never take off his socks unless he is going to take a bath. He just wears them all the time. He changes socks, though.

thank goodness i never had such a weird habit, and the weird things i did were just for curiosity, tasting things like bathing soaps.however my sister was doing something bad, she kept smelling anything she was to eat or drink.it was okay until we were visiting and of course this looked bad when other people wondered why she had to smell the food they have made, out of being ridiculed she finally stopped but after having put my parents through an embarrassing position to keep explaining the habit to people.

I have an odd habit of always needing to feel even. For example, if I have an itch on my arm, not only do I have to itch it, but I have to itch my other arm in the same spot to even things out. This applies to many other things, too. I am constantly switching sides when I am sleeping. I can't lay on one side for long before i feel the need to switch to the other side to even things out.
I also am a fidgeter and always have to be doing multiple things at one time, so I too chew on ice frequently(as long as I chew it evenly on both sides) to keep myself occupied. I've been told i probably just have OCD or something but who knows. Either way we all have our little habits and as long as they don''t hurt anybody its no big deal.
I saw a show one time about peoples' odd addictions and it featured a guy who was addicted to pulling hair out of bathtub and sink drains. He didn't even know why he did it. its not like he was eating it or anything, he would just pull it out with a paperclip and stare at it for a minute before throwing it away. Another one featured a couple who were addicted to giving themselves coffee enemas. Chewing on rubber bands sounds pretty normal about now, huh?
