we should thank God for what we have because there are people who live a very bad life due to poverty.there is a family living near our upcountry home.they have built a small mud hut with the roof made of thatched grass.in this tiny room live a husband wife and 6 children.its a single room so the kids sleep on a mat on the floor and the parents on the bed.never mind the parents have to fulfil their desires with the kids lying in that same room.when drought season is at its peak lucky for them at that time its also mango season, so the kids go to school and come home for a meal of ripe mangoes, supper time the mum boils the same mangoes and adds salt which they take as a warm meal for the night.its so sad hearing what some people undergo.have you come across such poverty ?lets share please.

We only realize the value of what have when we get to see and know the less fortunate, let's give time and material to help when ever possible or if we have something to spare. I was just wondering, why have 6 children?

source of Entertainment?hahaha... you really made me laugh today, you mean they entertain each other, well it won't be fun and entertainment after they find out that they already have 6 children and need to support them with their income, it won't be jun for the kids either. The situation is so similar here in our country

Well I would agree with you, often we tend to just look for the things that we do not have instead of appreciating what we have. Many people do not realize what they have, that they have been given much, they are blessed than others - but what they focus on is what they do not have and so they have often lead a very sad life.
I know there are people who are living in poverty and that even if they do a lot of things, work hard enough, it seemed as though their lives has not changed much... and here we are given the chance to be ahead at least a few steps against others.... but we do not seem to realize this, too.

really we should be thankful for the blessings that we received especially the gift of life. Your story is so sad and heart breaking, how did this happened? how come no one help them, no one advice them to make livelihood? where are the relatives of this couple? This is also a lesson, before we engage into marriage, we must see to it that we are stable enough to support the needs of the family, puberty is not a chance, everyone of us has a choice, if a family suffers poverty its there choice, there is a lot of option in this world, we should not stop pursuing our dreams, dream its a free of charge.

i think with this particular family its also lacking education for them to understand you dont need to have many kids if you cant feed them and take care of them, also the knowledge of how such a man should fend for his family,he relies on good weathe to get some food from the farm.with such people even if they have relatives its also a strain to help them during the drought season.

Hi there Pomwango!
You are right. We should be thankful even just for the fact that we are still breathing. Life is a precious gift and everything else are bonus. What's important is that we know how important it is to count our blessings, value and share these blessings.

We have a local food pantry here where families can go to get food supplies.
Our community donates all the food available there. In December when I was sick and wasn't working for 2 weeks a secret santa paid my water bill. I think it's wonderful with people pull together like this to help others out.
As for 'extreme' poverty, we don't see it here locally because people or the church step in and help out.

here such services dont work much, there are aid organisations but they can't reach everyone.churches also get overwhelmed in such areas.the best is for the goverment to teach some people farming methods to get food or else skills that can earn them a living.

I feel sorry for people living in such severe poverty. In 2009 I visited a poor township in Cape Town with a local guide. He showed me and my 20 month old son around this poor community. Most of the people lived in rough looking tiny homes. A few lived in the new homes built by an Irish charity.
It sounds cramped living in a mud hut with a thatched roof. It is amazing all eight of them can fit in that tiny space. I feel sorry for the couple having to share their bedroom with their six children. It is lucky it is mango season at the time of the year there is drought.

I have never been this poor or had this kind of poverty in my life but i have seen people who have no home and live with all their belongings on the street. There is extreme poverty allover the world and i wish their wasn't. When Thanksgiving(an American holiday) comes around and people ask me what i'm thankful for i say for my life and everything in it. I say this because even tho i don't eat the most expensive and bets food i still have food in my fridge and tho i don't have a lot of money in the bank i still have money and more than some. Tho i don't have the best house and it is so falling apart i'm glad to at least have the roof over my head. So i say im thankful for everything i have because even tho it's not the best or prettiest or richest i still have it better then some so im happy with what little i do have.

Good day. I really do agree on you on this. We should thank God for anything that happens on our lives, good or bad. Because it is what shapes us to become a better person. Even in times of hardship and sorrow God will always be there for us. It is but a challenge that we must face to be better. And lastly, We should thank God for our very existence for we wouldn't be here if not for him.

Hi pomwango, it is really a sad story. Cottage is very congested to a mother, a father and 6 children. There are many families in Asian and African countries. We should do something for these poor people. Have a nice day.

Try to think of that if start feeling sorry for myself. Don't how people cope. The world shouldn't be this way. It is cruel but that is what the world is like. Poverty for some is having to cancel the internet service because it is too expensive as bills start piling up. It is a sad but there are certainly worse things like the draught in Africa.

The poverty is on the rise around the world and the numbers of those who lack shelter, food, clothes and medicine are increasing rapidly. There were times when I thought that poverty is when a person lives in the street. No,it can be much worse.I gave some food to a man in the street and when I came closer I could smell this strange rotten smell.I don't know what that was, but there was something wrong with his body, maybe he needed a surgery or something.Hospitals refuse to take them. So, they just die in the streets. It's like war.

the world is changing fast and even small financial mistakes can push one to poverty,we need to work hard to make our lives better and when we are able make just one more person live a better life by helping them even if it means employing them, because you have to teach them to also work hard.

Hi pomwango!
We appreciate more what we have in life if we can see others who are less fortunate.
Perhaps, aside from being thankful to the blessings that we have, we can make it a point to share what we have.
Have a nice day!

I used to thanks God for what I have when I see those kind of people who are too poor and have many kids. sometimes at night I feel how they should feel in the cold, or under the sun? it is too hard and I do not know what we can do just making a wish for all of people to live better and happier. To see the world without tears, without sigh, without difficulties.

If this is in the Philippines, yes it's a very sad situation in our country. There are many provinces even in the cities that has a lot of poor people everywhere. They don't have jobs and have many children. They have no skills and no own land to till. The worse, they flock to the city believing that they could have jobs there, so the children end up begging in the streets. I wish that's something the government should really focus on. It's getting worse as time pass by.

This is one reason that I am so thankful that God has blessed me with a comfortable life. But even though that I have a better life than some of the people, I really have my heart for them. I would find myself crying everytime I would be watching a documentary about them.
One of my dreams is to be able to impart to them something that will be helpful for their family.

Here in America I am sure there is that kind of poverty but the media and government do not want us to see it. I know as a family we have been down and out before but we were able to pull outselves out of that, and even though we do not have alot of money we are able to pay our rent, and put food on the table, while we know others may not have shelter or food to eat. We pray for these people and help out where we can.

Yes we are very blessed. I tend to share my blessing even just a little. At least, we can alleviate their life or the least we can make them happy and make them feel they are being cared off and loved. I am so thankful with our President Aquino here in the Philippines, since only in his time that he showed love for the poor. I really thank for his Poverty reduction program. For sure He make the poorest of the Filipino people happy.
