It's just too hard for me or just too time too consuming i guess that's why when i attempted to play a guitar that I gave up easily. Maybe i just lack the interest so that's why i was easily discourage. I guess all who tried experience the same difficulty i had gone through but because they like guitar that they didn't mind to pursue learning. I tried to play piano. Just beginner piano. Something i can't show to other people because its not something i can be proud of but just a way to pass time.

Even tho i gave up on the guitar as well we shouldn't ever give up on things or we will never learn how to do them. Tho part of the reason i gave up on the guitar is because i really wasn't as interested in it as i thought i was. I am more interested in the piano but n o way to have lessons. I do not own a piano but i do own a guitar. I will go back to playing the guitar and not give up if you do the same. We shouldn't give up on things and i really want to learn to play an instrument before i die. so lets go back to playing the guitar.

Yeah at least to play some simple songs would be nice although i don't dream of becoming a real good on playing instruments.

It takes years to be a professional or good pianist but just to learn to play some simple music, just a month is more than enough I think. I don't want to be a pianist just to be able to play somehow is good enough for me.

Learning to play the guitar is not as easy as it looks. The effort and conviction and committment really have to be there. Playing an instrument can be something beneficial to your life. Perseverance and practice can take you all the way if it is what you really want.

I really like how to play the guitar. I even agreed to be the girlfriend of this guy just because he plays the guitar really well. Oh well, I was so young back then but then it didn't do me any good at all. I never really learned to play well and with the one song that I did learn, I still have to struggle with the chords.

I for one, also experienced what you had undergone. I even bought a guitar for me to practice but the guitar was only destroyed and I never learn. I also buy a guitar for my two daughters the same story none of them was able to learn I even hired a tutor for them to teach but to no avail.

Indeed it is not always easy to learn how to play guitar. And I wonder how do you tune a guitar when it doesn't sound good anymore

I know how to play the guitar but only the simple chords. My fingers are short and could not reach some keys. But my son plays guitar excellently. Whatever I did not learn, he learned very easily.
I think it takes dedication and patience to learn this art fully well.

Do you know that Rod Stewart said ,many years ago, " all you need is a guitar and 3 chords which is true in many ways.
3 chords can play a lot of songs even today, coz it is repeat use up and down, try learning 3 chords like C F G and play La Bamba or transpose to D G A , higher key but same combination , so many songs can be played with just knowing 3 chords and improve from there.,you will be able to play dozens of songs. Try the site ultimate guitar to find most songs that are popular with chords and you will see what i mean, sometimes there may be more chords but using 3 main chords can still play the song you want to learn.

Learning how to play the guitar is just easy. With even just a manual you can learn how to do it.
But with piano, it's so difficult for me. My father had me taught piano lessons in our dorm, by our landlady. I just don't have the interest so i don't learn how to read a piano piece much more play it.
I always feign to be sick when my landlady calls me for my piano lesson.

learning something new like an instrument takes a lot of perseverance.. if you really are into it then whatever hardships you may go through still you will pursue it.. i also tried learning guitar by myself and i find it really hard to play it.. so i gave up just easily..sad to say.. maybe i wasn't that eager to learn or my interest is not that high.. playing an instrument is really a nice form of relaxation i hope someday i will find the right instrument for me..

I learn guitar and i think you can only learn soemthing if you feel any passion for it.
Learning instruments and composing it´s quite difficult and ther´s a big theory to know!
Maybe you should htink of what musical instrument you have some more passion or interest and try to play it ?
Everyoen can play guitar and learn it ... some finger stuff are difficult at the first time but we can´t get discourage.
:c not being proud of that´s it´s a bad sign .. it means you´re just playing for playing feel the feelings :) Piano and guitarr are similiar on theory and different when playing

well same goes for me. I love songs accompanied by guitars whether acoustic or electric guitar. They bring out romance in an instance I hear the guitar strings being plucked or strummed. But its really hard to learn the notes and everything, but in the end its quite worth it. So I guess I'll just have to enjoy listening to guitars than playing them. You have to learn to be patient, submissive, in order to learn it. As they say "no pain, no gain."

I also tried playing a guitar during my teen years. My brother taught me how. I also found it very difficult at first but I still tried. I was able to play few "easy" songs. When I reached college, my interest changed. I seldom touch my guitar maybe due to a lot of exams and projects.
Good to know you are starting to play piano. Just be confident so you can show your skill to others (though you only do it on spare time). Always remember, music comes from the heart. :) Good luck on your new hobby!

Yes it would definitely help to play by heart so if I don't feel the music it is more difficult to play well.

Well, you're not alone hotsummer, I once gave it a try to since my brothers and uncle are really good at it. I envied them and was intrigued by it one point that I took a lesson and try to learn with the aid of my uncle. I was firm and really in my element to practice everyday. That was during my summer vacation, btw. So when the class resumes, I got very little time to practice because I spend most of my extra time cleaning the houes, preparing for dinner, cooking take care for my youngest sister, and washing the dishes, which is not good when you are playign the guitar

I think that anyone can learn to play guitar and I was able to easily play songs within a month or so of playing guitar. With the internet and music shops spreading it's becoming easier and easier to find instructions and details of how to do virtually everything on the guitar. I found the key to playing guitar is getting down your finger strength. Once you build callus's and your fingers start to get used to the scales the guitar becomes more and more familiar.
Learning different chords and playing through scales are great exercises that will get your fingers familiar with the moving. Basically it all comes down to building muscle memory in which your hands begin to learn the rhythms of different time signatures and such.
A good way for everyone to make reading music easier as well is to use tablature. Tabs are a much more modern version of writing music. In tabs you can see the exact number frets that you have to hold down and it has notations for hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, bends, vibratos and everything else. I would just advise everyone to not give off and just keep practicing. If you can play an hour or so a day or just whenever you have time you will eventually get it.

I for one have frustrations on how to play a guitar. I guess when one started young, they will have the edge rather starting when we grew older to learn and play musical instruments. My friends back in high school are good guitarists, they learned from a friend of ours who taught them how to play. I guess, we must have the passion and eagerness if we want to learn something and age don't really matter, if we really want to achieve something for ourselves.

You can not do anything if you think it is consuming your time. It has to be something you enjoy with an intent to desire to do. Learning anything takes time and if you are not willing to put the time into it then perhaps you don't want it enough. If you really want to do something you will find the time. Time management is tough but it can be achieved. Finding out that the time is not right for something is not a disgrace but will help you deside what is.

I agree with you that lack of interest will only bring discouragement. And adding to that, is lack of time and dedication.
My interest started when I was 13, I wanted to know playing guitar just like my other classmates who had their own bands. So I learned to understand the chord chart until I manage to play simple songs. Then I experienced having a band and played in front of people. Exposure helped, it made me confident not just in making people listen but most of all it made me believe I can play the song in my own rhythm.
Now that I'm working,I hardly have time to play. I am not an expert guitarist, and like what you've said, it's just a pastime now..
I play not to please other people but to express myself and be happy :)

Hi hotsummer!!!!!
They always say that, "if there's a will, there's a way!"
I had always wanted to learn how to play the guitar...
My bestfriend and I would practice by ourselves but I didn't learn to play even just one song that has the easiest chord....he he (that was when we were in grade school)
At the age of 23, i had the opportunity to learn and play the guitar!!!!! !!!
I practiced playing the guitar everyday and ALAS!!!!! glad to say that i did it in just two weeks!!!! (though wasn't that perfect yet but I was so happy because I never thought I would be able to do it he he)
So, if you are really interested to do something and you know you have the passion to do it even if you know zero of it from the very beginning you'll learn it!
