Imagine Something Better

The winter storm that was to have come in tonight started this morning. It's very cold outside so we've spent most of the day inside as we watch the snowflakes falling down. Just the thought of snow makes me cold, so I let my mind imagine I'm out on the beach, making sand castles as the sun is glaring down on me. I'm trying to make an image of where there is sun not snow, so that maybe I won't feel so cold. Had to take the dog outside and the snow was coming down in big flakes. Our dog did her duty and we came back inside shaking off the snow. I realized that the images in my head of the sand and warm weather made the transition of the snow on us a little bit better. Even though it's cold, it's not so bad. Have you ever had a situation that you had to think of something better than what you're going through to make it easier?

I have this wild imagination so I think of being somewhere else and being somebody else. But today I had to get rid of those snow ice blocks the street cleaners had piled in front of the lane in front of the garage because tomorrow the garbage automatic pickups are picking up the garbage and the last times they had not put the bins back besides the side of the garage. So had no imaginary things on my mind then.

Your method of focusing and imagine something better really works. Recently I had a bad headache and my colleague advised me to focus or 'meditate' on something calm, happy or imagining crashing the headache pain into tiny pieces and gone. She asked me to listen to Four Seasons by Vivaldi and my boss get for me to drink jasmine with mint tea. After few hours the headache subsides and gone.

I am in Canada, snow is normal lol. Yes I have been in situations where it was too painful for me to face reality so as a buffer I thought of a similar situation but one that I enjoyed.

When I go to the doctor I always get so nervous when they take my blood pressure it's usually high.....so I try to think pleasant thoughts like thinking of something my granddaughter said to calm myself so they can get a better reading.

Optimism - Optimism can really bring us a long way.
Well, I also believe that it's a matter of perspective. Nothing will bring you good if you make yourself feel worse by thinking of worse things. If you are in a bad situation, you can always see the light of it and make it as an advantage to make yourself better. Optimism can really bring you a long way. But more than optimism we must have hope and faith that we will get through all the struggles we are facing right now. "The measure of mental health is the disposition to find good everywhere." Hi Hatley, well at least when you got woke up the colonoscopy was over! lol So you got me curious, which movie stars did you meet? After I started this discussion, I was wondering if anybody would use their imagination on making any medical experience better to go through and you did! I think I "psych" myself up when having to go through any kind of exam, especially the pap smear.

A lot of people do that exercise that you did to cope with things and it makes their situation much more pleasant! I have one that I've used since I was a child in kindergarten. I adopt the attitude that this is the way it is, the way it always was, and the way it will always be. I accept the situation fully, embrace it, and treat it as normal life. That has always worked quite well for me.

Actually, I tend to do the opposite. I remind myself how much worse it could be, and then I look for things that make me happy to get me through it (listening to music, etc.).

I live in Northern Michigan and we had a storm a couple of days ago that brought us about a foot of snow in one night. I don't who said that we were going to have an early spring this year but I don't think that they were right. The roads were horrible out on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning. It was so bad that my job closed at seven o'clock instead of nine. I keep trying to imagine something better and I can do so pretty easily because I'm moving at the end of the summer to Washington. I don't know if the weather conditions will be all that much better in Washington compared to northern Michigan but at least it will be a change of scenery.

I am going through a bad phase in my life. I always think about the good times, when sadness tries to surround me or i listen good dancing numbers and dance. I watch comedy serials most so that sadness does not come near me and l stay positive.

Oh yes, I definitely do. That helps me get through those "troubling days". I am not the type of person who would be calling mom if ever I am depressed or just sad. I just let my thought linger....

I once, traveled to the beach, where I spent two days. The original idea was to spent three fantastic days; however, since the very first time there, I had to endure mosquitos which swarmed the environment. To put an end to this minor setback, I bought a mosquito repellent; However, the mosquitos were so many that the mosquito repellent resulted to be not as effective at fighting the mnosquito bites. Unable to fight the situation that prevented me from having a good sleep, I had to leave the beach earlier than planned.

wow! What a very powerful imagination. I am always imagining things when it comes to having a child. Been married for 8 years and still childless. Instead of being very depress on negative results of my pregnancy tests, I am treating my 5 dogs, a nephew and 3 nieces as my children. In that way, it makes me feel good and won't be too emotional. So far, it's still working :)

When I lived in an area with too much sunshine and was near the beach, I would spend my time looking at things about the north. I like the snow; I'm meant to be a Northerner.

I use my imagination a lot to help me get through difficult things in life. And an easy way is to imagine a lovely place with a sunset and a beach. Maybe that is why I like vacations so much. Winters are mild in my country and we are in Summer now. Still, I`d like a fairy to erase my illness from my body and the memory of it.

Oh I can relate. It is very cold this morning but I have lots of errands. First we dropped off our dog to the groomer. He's is so overdue for his haircut. Then before we leave the shop, it stated snowing although the snowflakes are still the tiny ones. But they have covered almost all the streets in a matter of minutes. After that, we went to Fedex to ship a package to my husband's friend's daughter. Then in the afternoon, we have to fetch my nephew from school. All the while I am freezing whenever I walk out the house and out of my car. Anyway, I believe in the power of imagination. Whenever I am sick, I imagine and try to re-capture the feeling of being healthy. Somehow it helps make my aches and pains bearable and greatly improves my mood even though I am still battling fever.

yes STOUTjodee, i myself is wandering on something different on what i am into for a moment. i think that is normal for us to wish or hope for something that makes some certain things quite different, which in turn make our world a little better. :) most of the time i dream of a thing that is really a major counterpart of what i am into, just like being with my dogs and play with them than being with my boss and argue with him... :0 or just like eating vegetables but your stomach wants meat loaves. :)
