At times I see men sporting earring(s), especially our tribal brothers. I am really at a loss why they do it. And I'm much puzzled likewise why most males don't wear earrings. Can you give the reasons?

All I know is that females wear earrings.Yet I have come across tourists wearing earrings. One of them had suggested me to wear them, but I did not like it.Earrings are female ornaments.I am a male. Why should I wear them? And yes,one of the tourists I had met had asked me if I liked to wear bangles.I laughed and told him that only females wear bangles.

What if they do if culture dictates them. If wearing earrings, bangles, etc make them ooze with pride and valor, can we make a laughingstock of them, talking of males?

Exactly.Earrings, bangles, noserings all are female prnaments. They fit well on them. Why should a male put on them and make himself a laughing stock?I don't know about others, but I,for one, would never wear them.

In that case it would become a norm. You would find males wearing bangles and earrings etc around you,and you would not be able to laugh at them.

It is a cultural thing. Here in the States, for a long time it was taboo for a guy to wear an earring but in the 70's and 80's thing changed. To wear an earring was cool. All the cool guys wore earrings. Nowadays it is up to the guy. some do and some don't.

Guys have the option to wear errings or not. In a free country nobody dictates what things to wear.

The real reason for wearing could be in them. The mixture of humanity some with earrings some without truly makes a society amazing. It would be monotonous seeing everybody in same look and fashion. Variety really is the spice of life.

Thanks for joining in and for the visit to our country. Earrings are for the ears but they must be worn in harmony with nature and everything. Negativism and weird-looking make the world sometimes funny.

There are a lot of males now, specially teeners who wear an earring. Though, it's only on 1 ear. My father a strict discipllnarian, when he was still strong and younger, reprimanded a friend of my nephew who went to the house since it's fiesta, because he is wearing an earring. He doesn't like guys who wears an earring.

For more than 15 years that I observed, haven't you notice that the only 1 piece of earring that men wears were mostly found at left ear and nothing on right ear?

There could be some secret reasons why earring wearers place them on the left and not on the right ear. Let's wait for others.

Ancient Israel left Egypt with earrings. They gave them up to make the ill-fated golden calf, and the fashion doesn't seem to have taken root again. In later biblical times it was associated with Arabs (Judges 8:24), but I don't think I've seen too many Arab men with earrings in this day and age. I don't think mutilation of the body for merely cosmetic purposes is really a good idea.

Doing weird things by people elicit several question marks. Trying to unmask the reasons why sometimes boggles the mind.

Mutilation of any part of the body is painful. Piercing may relate to ancient time practice, but is now forgotten or discarded.

But people still have these painful tattoos. Why???????

My husband has several holes in his ears for earrings but stopped wearing them as we grew older. I have even stopped wearing earrings.

As I've said in my response to other users. Wearing errings especially for boys; they may grow tired and lost interest in doing so in the long run.

Yes, I agree. I know some people who practice it do so for attraction.

I think some people just decide to go without, not seeing a point in wearing them.

Its true that they do have that in tribes. I am just not sure though why right now men do not do it anymore. Perhaps since we have got many influences and the norm has already been different for many cultures i think so men have not been using earrings anymore. Personally i think it just is better that men do not use accessories. I feel it doesn't look good on men and earrings are just better on women than in men.

When I was young, it was shameful for a male to wear earrings. It indicated that they were effeminate. I am still pretty much of the same mindset.

Girls should wear earrings. They looked pretty with earrings worn. But if males do. they may look effiminate lacking of maculinioty.

In my country many men don't wear earrings because they are afraid that other people will interpret it the wrong way. Many people still think that an earring in the right ear is a sign that the man is gay. If he has earrings in both ears it is sign that he is very feminine (according to those old beliefs) Some men in my country avoid earrings because they don't want other people to get the wrong impression of them. Other men don't care about other people's impression and wear earrings if they want to do and some men pick an earring in the left ear because that is the "safe" choice (it doesn't mean that you are gay or feminine)

Reasons for males to wear earrings are plenty. On the right ear, people may think the wearer is gay, in both ears, he's too feminine and earrings on the left ear is the safest or coolest place.

I think there's a purpose to those who live in the tribes or those who are not in the modern times anymore. But to us, who live in the city in the present generation, I think there are places that is not appropriate to wear earrings (for the males) like in the offices or churches.

Each person has their own personal reasons why they wear certain piercings, wheather they are male or female. Could be cultural, fashion, form of artistic expression, ext. For me I have many piercings I just love how they look and the different jewelry.

Male with earrings are related to a former savage people meaning a symbol of their bravery. The male that are wearing earrings want to emphasize that he is brave.

Hi, teotimo. Earring wearing relates to custom of uncultured people in the past to emphasize courage and bravery.

Here in my place, I can't really get any sensible reason why men should wear earrings. Yeah its true that, eons ago, it shows or mean something to a particular culture, but we are now in computer age. Most of the people I see who wear earrings are the teens, it is their fashion statement but for me it is far better minus the earrings. But anyway, if people who wear said thing, are comfortable with it, its up to them, at the end of the day, it is still them who are responsible of how they look or what they wear.

Freedom to do anything is what makes man truly happy. In a democratic society people do this but with limits. Perhaps doing this makes them happy. But it's still a mystery for me why some persons, tribes, culture, and most don't practice wearing earrings. Would it be a nice world to see with people wearing dangling earrings?
