Drive safely, MyLot

and everyone else who got hit by this winter storm. Kansas, where MyLot lives, has finally gotten some moisture, in the form of snow. I am in the middle of Kansas and I have about ten inches on the ground. Other places have a lot more. They say if you do not have to be out in the snow, stay home. Unfortunately, I have to go to work this evening, a little after 2 pm. It is not a job that can just be left undone, it involves taking care of people who cannot take care of themselves. I hope the people who are part of MyLot can work from home. I promise, I will not gripe if they fail to update today or if there are glitches, just as long as they are safe and sound. If you are in the middle of this snow globe as well, be safe. Come in and talk on the Lot if you have time. My hubby is going out to put gas in our van and I will drive it tonight. I will probably go shovel the walks. What are you doing today? Be sure to stay safe and if it is cold have some hot chocolate or other yummy things to stay warm.

We're supposed to get this tomorrow, all day and into Saturday morning, from what I can see. Rain, snow, sleet and freezing rain. Yippee.
I have enough food and everything else we'll need so I only have to go out to take my son to and from work tomorrow. They do a great job of keeping the roads cleared in Virginia, at least the more major ones. Our road and the next one we have to take to get to a main road are usually not treated. We have a private plow come through but that's it. So, if I can maneuver to the main roads, I'll be fine, hopefully. (This isn't always true, if it snows or sleets too fast, the main roads are covered, too.)
You be careful when you're out there! Too many people drive in weather like this like they've never SEEN it before or like they can go the posted speed limit (or over), no matter what. I always do my best to stay as far away from other vehicles as possible but there are always idiots on the road.

What company does he work for? That would possibly tell me where you would be going. I have not even had to take shelter in years and a tornado has not ever come through the middle of town. Some people say it is because of an underground river (?), others say that our town is a sacred Indian burial ground (?) and some scientific explanations are that the heat given off by the nearby oil refinery causes storms to lift up over the city. No one really knows.

Oh my gosh GG, be careful. I hope you don't have far to go. I was reading where you said they'll send a 4x4 out for you...wouldn't that be a little safer for you? Sometimes these cities are not used to this amount of snow and it makes things much more dangerous.
I'm sure they're telling everyone where you live to stay off the roads which is what they do here in Ohio also. Just be really, really careful if you drive your own Van. And take along emergency items too, like a blanket, phone, drink. Let us know tomorrow how this all went and again, be really careful.

I am at work now. It is still snowing. I drove my little car, and yes I always have blankets in the car. I have food and my phone. It is only three miles on main roads to my job. The parking lot at the apartments is a mess, though. When I finally got out of the driveway at home I just parked in a clear spot and got ready and went in to work early. I knew no one would mind, and the person I was relieving needed to go work with some more clients. I have dry socks and shoes and crochet to do and food to eat, etc.

Oh what a relief GG! I'm glad you got there safely! How were the roads for you?
I just knew you'd have the right items in the car because you're such a sensible person! I always mentione stuff though just in case. Now you can relax just a bit and I hope tomorrow the roads will be much clearer for you.

Mylot is in Kansas? I thought they were in California, or maybe that is Swagbucks in California. Anyways, our first snow storm dumped 10 inches on us too and my son loved it. In Ohio, we are under a winter advisory this evening, rain to ice kind of thing. So my son might have a two hour delay or the school might close, either way, it isn't good for me, when he is home, I can't focus on my schoolwork..
Stay safe, Stay warm GG...

I need to get a vehicle out, for my own good. Otherwise, work will send a driver in a 4x4 for me. I will go to work, may not be able to come back home.

MyLot is in a suburb of Kansas City. We have not had a lot of snow in recent years, but we used to have lots of it when I was a bus driver, and we almost never closed schools, but I think all of them in the whole state are closed. We have been under such a severe drought it is good to have the moisture. This is a dense, wet snow and there is almost no wind. A weather commentator just said that some people are calling it the Blizzard of Oz. I think I am going to go put the kettle on for hot beverages.

This is the most we have had in years. Someone says it is the most since the 70's. I thought we had some pretty good ones in the 80's as well. I am glad we do not have the wind that sometimes comes with it. I think all the schools across the state are closed.

I wish it was so simple that we could just refuse to go, but the people I care for are dependent on others for meals and medicine. Medical facilities do not close down in bad weather. I will be at work at least two more hours tonight, or until my relief arrives. I have food, water, blankets, and a phone in my car and it is just about three miles from here to my house on main roads.

In the very worst times they have had people help each other and sleep over in the houses. Not the best but it keeps people off the road. The people we care for live in their own apartments with just company support for medications etc. They did have provisions for a ride for me if I could not drive. I prefer my own driving however.

We haven't had much snow except for the last storm but would be nice to get more. Our area used to get feet and feet of snow and now we just get inches, but I guess God knows where it is needed so we should be thankful for that. Be careful driving and stay warm.

We have not been getting the snow like we used to either. I remember when I was in college there was enough snow that the boys dorm rolled big snowballs up against the main doors of the girls dorm. We really need the moisture and I really do not mind it. I would rather have it now than have it show up in April. You and your hubby be careful as well.

Like you, I can't NOT go to work unless I'm so sick that I can't do it (or might give what I've got to my client.)
Unlike you, while cold, it is dry here, we had a little rain this morning but then the clouds went away and the wind picked up.

Our weather here is fine but the heat from the sun bring in hot air which is unbearable sometimes. I can only do my gardening until 10am after which I have to retreat indoors to avoid being baked by the hot sun. Being in the tropics is not all that rosy as the weather can be so harsh which can easily affect our moods. When the weather is too hot temper can flare up easily.

That pretty well describes our summers here. I think you get hotter, but we get over 100 F often. I know what it is like to have to only be outside in the early morning.

You drive safely tonight too, GardenGerty! I am in Southern CA - and we all complain how it's freezing here at times - but I know we really cannot complain. The worst we get in this particular area is some heavy rain or wind and at times a bit of frost . . . but we never have to deal with snow or having to drive through it (my gosh, a bunch of people out here don't even "get" how to drive in the rain!!). I know there is a lot more prep work in trying to get out in snow period (my father in law used to talk about this as he lived in New Hampshire . . . he hated it, so that's why he moved out to California!). You stay safe and warm too!

We're also having snow right now and about 6 inches as of the latest report. We are due to have 9-12 inches by tomorrow. I don't think I will drive out in this condition. Thank goodness I am just at home the whole day today. Hopefully we do not have to bear anymore snow than this.

We have about fourteen inches and it is still snowing. I was unemployed for a while and I liked to be able to avoid the bad weather. I do not mind being at work, it is really pretty easy and I have a connection so I can be online when I am not doing other things. Like now. It is just getting out in the wet snow to get here. I hope my overnight person relieves me or I will be here all night.

That is how it has been most of the winter. For the most part just cold, no precipitation. We have had a drought for about two years. I am glad it is happening now and hope that by spring it will be warming up. They are having snow days even at some of the businesses.

Well, it has been rainy and cooler here than normal, and even predicting some snow possible here in some areas. I am really hoping they are wrong though. I have been hearing from many who have been stuck in the different snow storms they have had, and I do hope everyone has been keeping safe. This will be a yr. to remember for many in the record books for sure.

Whenever I think of Kansas I always think of the Wizard of Oz, and Dorothy Gale and the tornado that blew the house away, of course the film was originally in black and white and I am sure that Kansas is nothing like it was portrayed in the film. I am surprised that Kansas has snow, I thought it was dry and humid, guess you learn something new. The spring is around the corner and hopefully we have seen the last of the snow, although it's still pretty cold. Drive safely my friend.

Western Kansas is still pretty much like you see in that old movie. Very empty, dry, and windy. I spent two weeks doing census out in Western Kansas in 2010. Family farms are on their way out, though. Yes, we are in the middle of tornado alley, and then two years running we had snow in April. We have been in a drought for a really long time. I used to drive a school bus and I consider myself to be a good, but cautious driver.

Ugh! I don't envy you at all. Atleast you don't have to travel in the early morning hours. That when I stress out if I have to be on the road. Black ice and idiots. Updating on here has been slow but I am old and I don't expect everything right now this minute like the youngsters do. I hope Mylot can work from home too. We had our bad weather here in the valley in late January and early February. Hopefully it is all over. We have been having 40-50 degree weather lately with rain here and there. I had to take my grandson to school because he refused to get out to the bus. You stay safe and hope to hear more from you.

I like snow. Of course, I am fortunate that I can just enjoy it and generally don't have to go out in it if I don't wish to do so.
Hopefully, the roads won't be slick for you tonight while you're out driving about.
Chocolate coffee is my usual go-to beverage on winter days. I like the hybridization between coffee and hot chocolate--maybe with a bit of caramel mixed in for good measure.

Oh, yes, chocolate coffee with caramel. We keep cocoa mix on hand just for that reason. I do not mind the snow, but I would rather be at home when it falls. I take care of people who cannot care for themselves, though. We have over ten inches on our sidewalk and I will probably shovel as it is required, and hubby will not do it, as he always hurts his back.

Hi GG. Boy your in the wrong place I have been listening to the news all morning and your right it is a good day to stay in. Please let me know that you have made it to and from work safely. We too live in the storm area we live at the bottom of Missouri in the middle of the state and it is bad here too. We have about an inch of ice on the ground and it is still falling pretty thick. Do you have lighting and thunder there too? We have had so much of this messy stuff it is unreal. I heard on the news that people that live in your area are getting more and it is only going to get worse. I will pray that God will guide you through the road ways safely. Not going to do anything here except stay in the house and try to stay warm. The news said there could be power outages I pray that we don't get any power outages. Be safe my friend. The hot chocolate sounds good think I will make some. I thank God we don't have to go out in this storm. We did our grocery shopping yesterday thank God.

We did not have ice or sleet before this, so it is just wet and deep. I will drive myself to work if I can get down the driveway, otherwise, there is a person who will come pick us up for work, as our clients cannot be left without care. If I drive myself I will take my computer and I will be online. Not sure if I will take it if I have to get a ride. I am really glad for the moisture we are getting. Some places have had thunder snow this time, but we have not.

Hi GG. I am glad you didn't get the ice but there can still be black ice on the roads that is why I said be careful my friend. I hit black ice once in my life and it was enough to remember to be real careful on these snow covered roads. I didn't get in a wreck as soon as I hit it I prayed and asked God to protect me I let off the gas and didn't touch the breaks knew if I did it could get worse. Thank God I came out of it without even a scratch on myself or my vehicle. Have a safe trip my friend. It is good that you think about your clients first. You sound like a real kind person. Good luck and God bless you my friend.

Hi GG! Wow! That's a lot if snow. I just told my daughter you are in Kansas and under 10 inches of snow. It hasn't snowed or even iced over here in my part of Georgia. It's been cold here, in the 40s and that is way colder than I like. Our heat bill was over a hundred dollars this month.

We get our utilities on a budget plan that is averaged. I would not expect it to snow in Georgia, but I do not know much about it. Our measurement now is twelve inches in my town, others have more than fourteen. It will surely help the drought.

After we have been here a year we will be eligible to go on a flat bill. It only has flurries here some years. We did have a blizzard in 1996 and in 2005 where we had lots of snow and an ice storm. It just lasted a few days and was mild again.
