How do you define yourself

This is one of the first questions you are asked to do in basic social classes in colleges. Or it was when I went to college. Not that college has anything to do with this question. But it is a question that has always interested me. How would you answer it? Has your answer changed over the years? Mine sure has, I first defined myself by my place in the family, i was daughter, big sister, ect. Next I defined myself by what I did, that lasted a long time. Now I no longer define myself by either of those things, I am not my body, I am not what I do, I am an energy being as we all are and as science proves everything is. Does this bother me? no. I understand that the definations from the past were necessary for me to get where I am now and learning to see the world and beyond as energy is a very exciting thing for me.

I do the usual things, daughter, wife, mother, grand mother and now greatgrandmother. I had a professional life and now I find I study life. There are so many things taking place in science and spritual studies that I often can't get to sleep thinking of all the new info I have learned over the day. Who knew at my age I would find so much excitiment in life?

That sounds very profound, and although I've been to college I have never come across this question and it would floor me, mind you that kind of question could be asked in interviews too I guess. I guess I would define myself by the experiences that life has thrown at me and how I've dealt with them. I am still here, that is the important thing, at the height of my depression I could have easily of given in but I didn't, I found the strength within me, whether it's my guardian angel or my stubborn streak that I wasn't going to give in. So I would say in one word how would I define myself a 'survivor'

I have always defined myself as me. Nothing more, nothing less. I never saw things like other people did. I never followed orders and I always went against the grain. So, since I am an individual, thats how I always saw myself. I guess thats my answer.

I think that this is one of the most difficult things that is being asked of you as an individual. I have encountered this question so many times in college and it never fails to make me think so hard. I think that it will be better if people you know will be asked of who you really are as a person. I just think that somehow it is bias if you answer it yourself. I believe that you know yourself better but the things and the people around you speak more of the real you.

Hi, It is very difficult to define myself. I am very short tempered so I get angry with small things and sometimes I hurt feelings of my son and wife. But I am very kind and caring also. So I can define myself as caring and loving father and husband. I have many friends so I am friendly with others. So I can define myself as a good friend also.

This soul-searching question, has always interested me as well. When I was going to college I was not happy with where I was, because I was still searching. It was not until I was 21 past, and had given up religion that I finally was able to place myself on the ladder to God. At this time in my life, being a Great Grandfather is also a defining definition of my physical and spiritual being.

I don't really have a definite answer to this question. Way back in college days, I'd answer I'm simple but that was an understatement of the year! Imagine me saying I am simple and when I get out from the classroom I'd turn nasty, I was this kind that had mood swings, I'd keep mum for the whole day without knowing the reason, it just happens, I don't talk to anyone even if they come to me asking and trying to draw me into conversation and believe me deep inside I loved every minute of it, how I was so indifferent to them. It still beats me these days, I guess I really don't know myself that much although I know the things I want, the decisions I make in every situations I'm faced with, I still believe others are much better judge and knows me better based on how they perceived my attitude towards them.

I define myself by investigating others' perception toward me. I think what others' perceiving about me would be very clear do define myself. if others like me, I think I am friendly to them. I other got bored of me, I define myself is a boring. I am a very unique person. There is no one like me. I am a very meaningful to others.

Adjectives alone are not enough to describe or as you say defines a person. Defining someone or yourself is as hard as it can be because you started digging words that can best defines you or someone. What you see, what you hear from me is what I and how I defines my self. How I act towards someone Is defining my feelings towards someone depending on how he is related to me and how he treats me.Definition is a matter of choice of how you think of yourself or somebody else and depends on how important he is to you or how you want others to recognize you, and vice versa. And for me, the best definition for me is simply "life".

I hate answering that kind of questions. I feel like by defining myself out loud in front of other people I put some limitations over myself. I'm affraid to be classified and judged by what I say about myself. I prefer to show people who I am by my actions and opinions. No matter what you said about yourself in the end it's always you who knows the whole true about your personality.

I like how you have started to define your self, from Childhood to The present level. I agree our defination do tend to change as we move on with the time. We define ourself differently in different situation's of the life. I also define my self few year's ago with my place, family status,no etc. Because people do ask Known us by our family. Now we have growning up and have own defination. Now a day,s when somebody ask me i used to define by myself as computer Analyst, Because i'm student of Computer science. So a very good discussion, thanks for sharring
