Would you only concern the functionality or the cosmetic appearance?

In some websites which offer gadgets like laptop; handheld tablet; iPhone in really cheap price might appeal people at the first glimpse. But most of them are either refurbished, or they might have dent, scratch on the those devices. I won't bother to get one of those gadget if they are still function well. About the cosmetic appearance, for my personal use, not for gift, I would definitely not mind to use them as a secondary backup. For other people, they might concern about the cosmetic appearance more than the functionality of the machine itself. So, what is your take?

I have gotten one of those sold on the net through trading sites and fortunately i was always get my money's worth. As to your question, definitely go with the functionality rather than cosmetics for the reason what's inside is always better than the outside that being same with people, right? LOL!

I dare not buy second hand items especially if these are sold by people i do not know. I would buy phones or laptops refurbished if i know the seller and that it was a hand me down only because the owner opted to buy or use another device type just about 6 months to a year. Some people are not careful with their things and who knows what else was done in refurbished items? i think these won't last really long especially that they have been mixed and matched with other parts to make them work again.

My first priority in buying gadgets would be picking it brand new. Electronic gadgets like laptop are sensitive equipments and buying them second hand can give you even more run for your money even thought you bought it for a cheap price. But sometimes if I am budget conscious I would buy second hand too, like mobile phones and handheld game consoles. It is also good if you know the individual who owns the gadget you are buying, if its from a friend of mine then I'm sure it is working fine. Universally for me, I am more into buying these kinds of electronic equipment new as much as possible, its not because they look good but I am much assured of the quality and workability plus long life of the gadget.

Those are tactics to get people to the site. Now, I personally would be careful buying any kind of refurbished equipment online. I am a major Apple fan and I would only consider buying a refurbished item from them. I trust Apple. Not anyone else. As for them not being perfect, well, Apple refurbs are. But like you said, not all are perfect. Thats would not be an issue with me. But rather the statement that I made, I would have trust issues from a third party website selling a product of someone else's company.

I personally wouldn't buy a used computer because you really don't know what's on it. Unless you are sure there is a totally new hard drive on it you have no clue what the previous owner put on there.
Even though all the files may have been deleted, defragged and formatted they never truly go away. They are still there and can be found and who knows if something was put on there to be able to steal your info.
Also I will never sell or give away any computers I own for that same reason. If I decide to get rid of an old computer I will destroy the hard drive. I prefer functionality over cosmetic appearance.

For me it's functionality that matters the most but I like if my gadget looks nice. I don't think I would be bothered by one little scratch though. But if you're buying something to show off with a brand new and shiny thing then you can't buy something already used. And if you buy something for work purposes then your concern should be functionality and appearance doesn't really matter.
Anyway thanks for bringing it up to my attention. I think I'll look for some cheap used gadgets when I'll have some more money.
