i was really shocked when i rad online that DEPED has decided to drop science from the grade 1 & 2 curriculum. DEPED then responded that they will integrate science topics in other subjects and that science is too complex for grades 1 & 2. and as expected, a lot of netizens are outraged with this decision.

I don't understand why they have to drop the Science subject. Don't they know that Science is more interesting than History?

As for patriotic people, history is better than science. But as for the kids perspective, I think their creativity will be more sharpened if science would still be there.

As far as i can remember, when we were in grades 1 & 2, topics in Science are easy to comprehend. That's because they are to identify the living things that each one of us see in our surroundings. It's not that complicated, so why would they remove that from the Grades 1 & 2 curriculum?

Yes, that one is basic science and children should know about it.

Yeah I do not think they should not drop that one since it is a very important subject that children should start learning from them in here. Although it may be integrated with other subject but I think it is best that children should identify it separately than being integrated with other subjects since it will become broader as they go to a higher level.

Hello Iluvusabado, there insane! i don't think these officials have ever experience having a hard time studying science. aren't they aware that develop countries and advancement of other countries was due to the fact they took science at the early age. whom ever proposed this should resign right away! their making future generation have a hard time understanding science and solving things the way math does. besides the real hard part is when you reach later grades, highschool and colleges

Really? How could they possibly think of dropping the subject from the curriculum of on those two levels when the lessons taught are not as complex---parts of the human body, parts of animals, parts of a plant, color, energy, matter, the similarities and differences of people. What were they thinking? Everything that is being taught on these levels are very basic lessons in Science from which children can easily integrate in their daily surroundings.

maybe the topics are too simple they just wanted to integrate it with other subjects. i also read they are just following the K-12 system in other asian countries.

Is this for real? As far as I am concern, science is pretty interesting for grade schools and at the same time, its easy to comprehend because it will allow them to somehow have an idea of the world around them.

Wow...so they will just let our poor grades 1 and 2 pupils to be dumb from science! what a decision!

I never heard about that. Science should not remove in lower grade this is very important. If they integrate it in other subjects it is confusing to the pupils. At the early young age the parents are starting to teach the children in their home and they include science to their teaching.

maybe we should drop them insteadfor failing to comprehend that this subjects are needed even before you step into your first day of school, I taught my kids science stuffs even before they went to kindergarten! And who are they to generalize that it's too complex for the kids? Kids or people have different learning ability levels, is this too complex for the brains of people in DEPED to comprehend???!!

Too complex? Duh, whoever said that science for grades 1 and 2 are complex probably flunked it when he was on that grade. Seriously, science during those grades is the most favorite subjects of young kids. They get to learn a lot about their surroundings, about the solar system and how things work. Are they really there to enhance the educational system of our country, or just to make some noise that they have done something big just because elections is coming up? I hope this will not happen and I hope our lawmakers for once don't let DepEd get away with that one.

This is a stupid move, at that young age is when their mind is fresh and open, they learn and absorb information easily at that age. languages are esy for kids hard for us older people. My daughter is three she is good in English, Visayan and soe tagalog. We will go to america next year so daughter can start there, where they don't teach basket weaving. Educational system here needs a complete overhaul!

They connect science to evolution which I don't agree with so I would prefer they waited until a later grade. Simple stuff such as experiments would be O.K.

I don't really understand why do they have to drop the science subject from grade 1 & 2. Science was my favorite subject back when I was on grade 1. That was the only subject which I clearly understood at my very young age. Instead of dropping science, why don't they just eliminate elementary subjects which are not that necessary?

I agree that this news will come as a shock to a lot of parents and people who are concerned for these students. A lot of us have gone through grade school and we lived through science classes. As far as i can remember the lessons were made simple by teachers and it wasn't really something that would stress a first grader. I think they are only doing this to compensate for the lack of teachers... its not like they are concerned about the children. We cannot have them not have these classes... are we saying now that our children are not intelligent enough to handle this class? Whoa... that is insane!
