Which Is More-Important? The "Our Father" or the "Life-Changing Prayer"

I want Church-leaders to consider this, because there seems to be no agreed-upon prayer-method. You know The Our Father, the prayer Jesus in response to His disciples' request that He 'teach them to pray like John (the Baptist) taught his disciples.' Charles Stanley brought that question up when teaching The Life-Changing Prayer---Colossians 1:9-14 I think that prayer--though not as focused on 'the good of all in the Kingdom' as The Our Father--does focus more on 'our part in the work'---'our leg in the relay-race.' I guess what I'm asking is: if you had to keep one prayer and throw away the other, which would you keep? (& why?)

There is a story with 3 hermits, they didn`t knew any prayer, all they knew was "God have mercy upon us !" so this is how they were praying. One day a bishop comes through the forest they were living in, near a big lake, he listens to them and he decides to teach them a prayer by the book let`s say Our Father. So he teaches them the prayer and then he lives, he goes on a ship to go on the other shore. But the hermits forget the prayer and one of them runs to the ship and suddenly the bishop sees him walking on water. The hermit asks the bishop how was the prayer and the bishop says : Well...nevermind ! It is more important the way you pray than the prayer.

I agree with you it is more important the way you pray. God hears sincere prayer. I don't think God wants you to just repeat something over and over again because it was a prayer you were taught. Also I think the Lord's prayer is an example of how we should pray and not necessarily say it verbatim.

I judge that the Colossian 1:9-14 prayer is the one you should pray when you tell others that you're "praying for them"---lotsa stuff about how G*d gives us the strength to endure stuff.

Everyday i pray the way we were taught to with the my father prayer...It covers a lot of things. Everyday i also pray for different things like for the spirit of God to find a way into nonbelievers hearts...I pray for our leaders to find God so that they can make the right decisions... I also thank God for everything. I would never through out any prayer..or even consider it. that is just another way evil can try to grasp hold of you. Even to suggest it is thoughts from Satin.

"You cannot serve two masters." Whether-or-not Jesus said that, you can see it's true because of the FACT that you can't serve two purposes at the same time (not with the devotion your Master demands you give to the one He gives you). And you didn't understand the question. It was more like, "IF YOU COULD ONLY CHOOSE ONE PRAYER, which ONE would you choose?"

I have read that the Lord's prayer is what we should refer to as a guide when we are praying to the Lord. It is actually not meant to be the only prayer thatt one must pray as it can be memorized, repititive and once we memorized we shall not be able feel it or pray it from our hearts. "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. -- this tells us to follow God's heart, in prayer let us ask for what we want, but also remember to know what God wants for us as well, that we shall be given the heart to follow what God's plans are. "Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. " -- Here is a guide that we ask God to provide for us, say our wants, say in our hearts what wwe want God to do or to give us. Also that we shall be given the strength to accept that others are capable of hurting us, and that we too have been hurting others, and we ask to be forgiven of those things we did, and that we also be allowed to forgive those who hurt us, to take out the anger in our hearts. "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, for ever." -- Amen. " -- In these line, we are praying for God to help us with our day to day challenges, to keep our heads strong and wise when it comes to acceptance, to help us resist what could make our spirits weak. This is so that we are putting the trust we have to God our father, This is what the Lord's prayer is about. That we take it as our template and use it as to how we pray. Our prayers must be personal, but we do not always start with a prayer that we are already asking God why, or to give us our needs, because first we have to acknowledge him, to make him first and to thank him first before we do say our prayers with requests. There is another way of praying too, that of the Jabez's I think not many has been told of this but this was the kind of prayer that we ask what we want directly to him as we are his children and we know whatt we deserve and we deserve God's blessings, that is.

No! The Lord's Prayer is G*d's Word (the Life-Changing prayer is IN G*d's Word, but not 'direct FROM G*d'). Humans CAN NEVER UNDERSTAND what G*d knows---not 'about ourselves,' not 'about anyone else,' not 'about ANYTHING.' "Prayer" doesn't change G*d's mind about 'what you get or not.'

I can feel God's presence in this prayer.

Whether it is the "Our Father" or some "life-changing" prayer you're praying, if you pray from the heart and mean every word you utter in your prayer, then you've prayed a prayer that is acceptable to God. Only God sees the hearts of men who say a prayer to Him directly. Sincerity and faith matter to God when one prays. Our confidence and belief in Him whenever we communicate will dictate if our prayers get answers. The bible says in the book of Mark, "..whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.." So for me, I can always use the model prayer "Our Father" and say it from my heart...believing..so I'm not throwing it away. Also, I always pray from the heart using my own words..and I believe that through the years, praying from my heart and believing God for answers have transformed my prayer life and made me more mature in my Christian life, so I am not also throwing my "life-changing" prayer.

That Scripture-quote is very-misleading ... people see that, and think "Okay, so--if I don't get what I'm praying for--G*d's a liar " No! I don't remember what the full quote is, but there's a condition to that---something like 'if you keep my words within' or 'if you ask in my name' or 'if you keep your focus on the Kingdom of G*d.' Because that's how it actually works: you see how the Kingdom of G*d is working, do what IT needs you to, and "all these things will be added unto you."
