Recent accidents during school field trips wherein student participants died raised questions on whether these trips are really necessary or just money making schemes of schools. DepEd should evaluate and decide once and for all whether to allow schools to continue having these so called "field trips" for their students at the risk of their safety.

Accidents happen a lot, we can't avoid it. But I believe that those educational field trips are really helpful to the students. I think that the school should only be stricter in choosing the bus company, the places to visit, the relevance of the place they are going to their curriculum, and not just for the vacation purposes. I think that the children will miss a lot of educational field trips will be gone.

I used to have field trips too with my college days and I can say that all of us were careful especially that the school has let us sign a waiver that they will not be liable for us. I believe that field trips are fun for students but measures must be taken to ensure that they all will be alive and in one piece after the trip

I guess it should be made stricter and the school should identify what kind of learning the student can get from that field trip. What I think is not acceptable is when the trip becomes pleasure only without learning anything like those trips to TV station just to watch a noontime show or some just gets to malls only. I think that should be avoided or it may be included but after the main purpose was delivered.

Its a tough thing. Kids need field trips... as they are a big part of living life. But we dont want our children in any danger. But I guess they can get into danger just be driven to school by the bus.

i loved field trips when i was just a little kid. i don't want it to be abolished. i just want stricter regulations. i wish field trips would be more educational yet still entertaining.

It's sad hearing about the accident happened in Benguet a few days ago. For me, field trips are somewhat necessary for students since they can learn a lot about historical and educational places however if these trips are the reasons for the lives of students to be in great danger, I would rather not allow my kid to join these kinds of trips. Deped should really review the curriculum of schools. If field trips are really helpful for students then they should just choose nearer places. They should not select places that are very far. I remember a friend of mine who joined their field trip to Singapore. Imagine the students riding in a plane to go to Singapore and imagine how much money to pay for that trip.

From a personal note I didn't enjoy field trips at school, fortunately there were only a few, to some it was the excuse to be let off the 'lead' as it were. I think they can be educational but they have to be managed and supervised well, a lot more background work has to go into the visits and a safety assessment made in each case.

I have never agreed of having field trips because it was actually the main reasons why I did not continue with my first course in college. It was so expensive! My family can't afford of letting me to join. And besides, I think it is not the only reason that we can learn information. We can anyways learn information without spending so much that will put our family in great problems of looking for money.

The accidents happened this fast few days are merely shocking. Field trips are necessary for the students for them to educate and to learn such a historical places. All i know from this kind of educational trip is this is not a mandatory for the students to join, this is optional. The school asking the permission of the parents if the students will join or not. It was an accident that happened and it could be happened anywhere to anyone. The deped should review this kind of curriculum of having an educational tour. If not totally abolish they should assure the safety of the students.

I do think that these Educational trips can help kids learn a lot. However, it would be better if the trips that they would be taking be in a nearer place and should make it an option for parents to come along with them, too.

the students should take care of themselves as they are the ones to benefit from the field trip.the school should advise the students on safety issues during such events and have them accompanied by some of the teachers

Is this the one in the news about those Mindoro students who went to Baguio and met an accident?
I was shocked that this happened to these students. I think perhaps, DepEd should really review their curriculum on whether trips like these are necessary?
Can't the students not just watch it on a big projector about the different places?
I am so sad for the parents of these children.
